Nice to see the forum's expanded. There's a lot of music lovers on this board.
What are you all listening to lately? I (almost) never stray too far from my metal roots, but lately I've been listening to Roni Benise. He's a fantastic guitarist, and his music is a beautiful mixture of Spanish flamenco, Brazilian rhumba and a little calypso tossed in for good measure. It sounds like a strange combination, and it's a huge departure from what I usually listen to, but I really like it. I was travelling on business last year, and while I was studying for a presentation I was giving the next day, I tuned in to one of his concerts on PBS just for some background noise. I was floored. Really, really worth a listen, especially if you love good guitar work as much as I do. Anyway, that's what I'm listening to at the moment. What are you enjoying right now? |

Roni Benise sounds very interesting. To be honest, there hasn't been anything new that I've liked in quite a while. I did listen to my iPod on shuffle today while I was at the gym and there were a few songs that I really enjoyed.
Sultans of Swing by Dire Straits (Great song that never gets old) Home by Marc Broussard (Saw him on the 101 recently and loved this song) Shine by Collective Soul (kinda an oldie but goodie) Call The Police by James Morrison Burn It Down by Alter Bridge Supermassive Black Hole by Muse (I absolutely love this song and I don't really know why...) Kind of a weird list now that I think about it. |

The live version on Alchemy is spectacular ! We saw these guys at a little club called The Palms in Milwaukee before they were stars and you could see/hear the talent immediately. Knopfler is awesome on the steel guitar |

Good call. Unfortunately too many people think Money for nothing when they think Dire Straits. Another live favorite of mine is Love over Gold. Right at this moment i'm listening to a live Wings album. (I developed a real soft spot for the Beatles after visiting Liverpool). I still lean towards punk. The Clash....the only band that matters, is my favorite group. Although Rancid is a close second. Listen to the standards, Dead Kennedys, AFI, Sham 69, Stiff Little Fingers, Flogging Molly, Drop Kick Murphys, etc.. Like a lot of old metal. Big Iron Maiden fan. Still listen to the Scorpions, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, etc. Like some mellower stuff....The Kinks, Sublime, Radiohead, Weezer, etc... |

I am hooked on The Black Keys right now. They are a bluesy, rockish 2 piece that totally blows me away. The production of the CDs is very raw and dirty, and AWESOME.
If you are a Black Keys first timer, I don't think you can go wrong with their latest release, Attack and Release. I'm betting this is the best CD you'll buy in 2008. |

I just picked up Nine Inch Nails' latests "Ghosts I-IV"...two cd's of instrumentals...really cool stuff.
I'm also pretty much a metal-head most of the time, but lately I've been listening to more acoustic, folky stuff. This guys I guess is from Northern WI: Bon Iver |

Give 'em another try. Try the album Rubber factory, and the songs 10 A.M. Automatic or Stack Shot Billy. These guys are killer. |

The Velvet Underground May have to come back to The Avett Brothers. Listened to a couple songs on Pandora at work. A little too close to country for me. |

They're kinda country...kinda bluegrass...but mostly, they're them. A good band if you can transition some.
Superior songwriting. |
