Yeah, I don't think calling Martin "just a guy" is hating on him. He is just a guy. I said the same thing about Koren Robinson, and a lot of people (not necessarily the same ones) disputed that too. And then we cut him, and he's still unemployed. Every time we bring in a new receiver -- Jennings, Jones, probably Nelson -- that guy quickly moves past Martin on the depth chart. He's fine as a 4 or 5 but we wouldn't want him as one of our top 3 guys.
He may have a good drop percentage, but man, it's hard to forget his drop before the half in the NFC Championship Game that could have given us a touchdown rather than settling for a field goal. It was a catch that has to be made and Driver, Jennings, or Jones would have made it. If that's hate, fine; I think it's just acknowledging his averageness -- i.e., just a guy. |

He showed that he was running pretty well behind a hodgepodge offensive line until he suffered an injury. So that also makes Aaron Rodgers "soft and unreliable" I suppose. Wynn s fighting to be the backup RB at most so there's a lot less pressure on him to perform than there is for Rodgers. |

I think Max already pointed out this error on my part. I think Martin is just fine....we're 5 deep in good receivers. |

I'm with you, Digger. Your basic point is well taken. On a roster that may have 6 (or more) WR's, not everybody can be a superstar. But, they don't have to be. Guys like Ruvell and JamJones filled their roles well, as I expect Nelson and Swain to do.
I'll still say, overall, the Packers have the best WR corps in the NFL. And, chances are, they're only going to get better. |
