Review: The 11 Coolest Helmets in Pro Football History

quote:
We celebrate you, Packers and Colts, for never giving into the temptation to change your helmets. I'm sure at some point in Colts history, some guy came into a board room and suggested putting a snarling cartoon horse on the Colts' helmets, and someone probably once tried to convince the Packers to put a football-toting meatpacker on the side of their helmets, but they've both resisted. And today, they're rewarded. More...

The Packers helmet was one of the first. Making it way cool.

Wow. I've never thought our helmet was "cool", or anyone else did. I actually think the Vikings and Lions have cooler helmets in our own division.

I like the old Redskin helmet best. I also like the Boston Breakers helmet in the USFL that didn't make the list.

Waiting for the ugliest helmet list. Cleveland wins hands down.

How many years ago was it that Wolf wanted to go to GOLD helmets and navy blue jerseys? I think that would've looked sharp, but you don't mess with our fine tradition even though our uniforms and helmets have changed over time.

Never cared for the Colt's Horseshoe "U" on their helmet. How does a horseshoe indicate anything more than a horse's hoof...let alone a colt?

Love the classic uniforms, including the Browns. Save the WWF crap for expansion teams like the Vikings.

The Colts' helmet was always one of my favorites -- the blue and white work well together, and the design is simple and elegant.

Much as I hate to admit it, I always liked the look of the Vikings' helmets too.

How many of us who grew up in the 1960s thought the horseshoe on the Colts' helmet was actually a "U" -- for Unitas? Smiler

I like the old Jets helmet that just said JETS in big letters. Don't know why but I always thought that was cool.

I also like the Browns helmet. It's classic.

Packers are still the best though.

The coolest helmet of all time is the old Redskins helmet, but the best that this P.C. writer could muster up for it is an honorable mention because he doesn't like the name of the team.

The Steelers don't deserve credit for the best helmet in football because no one even associated with the team or the franchise designed it. U.S. Steel designed that logo and evenutally it was "given" to the Steelers.

I, too, always hated the one sided Steelers helmet.

I really miss the silver Seahawks helmet...that was always one of my favorites.

Always thought the Vikes should've put the actual Viking guy on their helmet accented by smaller horns.

I read an article once about the Rams helmet and how it was considered one of the finest logos ever, in any product line. It's simple and yet cool. How that does not make it is beyond me.

I do think the Steeler's one is excellent. You only identify a product once. So, the Steelers have that originality. I think it also looks cool and utterly distinguishes them.

Selecting Buc's and not selecting Raiders? Are ya kidding me?

I agree with the writer that the Bengals helmet is cool.

Colts and Cowboys are classics, no doubt about it. Basic, simple.

Others I like: Chargers, Chiefs, and Lions. I always loved the 1980's Patriots. Also the 67 Redskins. Oh, and I LOVE the original Bills. Now, THAT is cool. Just like the buffalo head nickel. Also, the only team whose logo is the name of the CITY and not the name of the nickname. THAT'S COOL. I would actually rename the Buffalo Bills to the Buffalo Buffalos. happy45

It seems to me, typically the changes (modernization) suck. Patriots. Broncos. Bills.

I [catts] do not think the G helmet is cooler because, IMMHCO, it isn't.

The star helmet is the coolest of all and does not need a D or a C for the world to know it belongs to the Dallas Cowboys.

I dont think a person coming from another country is going to look at a Cowboys helmet and immediately think Cowboys. He might think Dallas stars.
A big G and immediately you see the connection to the mighty Greenbay Packers.
