Unbelievable!!. He kills Favre all the time and praises Peyton for 6 picks? I felt so vindicated watching Manning struggle Sunday night after people piled on Favre when he was playing undermanned for those few years. Or when Schroeder would run an out instead of an in and it would be a pick 6.m Or when Chatman was a number 1 receiver on the team. |

Most of the talking heads seem to think Peyton did what he needed to do with his team down and missing players.

I would applaud him for this article if he didn't rip Favre for years for throwing INTs when the team around him was in tatters. This article (like so many others he's written) just shows what a two-faced Idot Zimmerman is.

Most people forget this is a Team effort. Everyone on that team counts toward W-L.
It also says a lot about the depth on that team. Once some of their best go down, they have nothing to come in and take over. They were making excuses during the game that, the Colts were still down from losing to NE. |

did anyone see chris mortenson on espn last night? HE ACTUALLY SAID PEYTON MANNING WAS HEROIC IN DEFEAT. HE WAS DOING ALL HE COULD DO! ALL 6 INTS WERE HEROIC BECAUSE HE WAS TRYING TO "WILL" HIS TEAM TO A VICTORY.... wait it's ok for manning to do it... but when favre does it, he's washed up, blah, blah, blah....

Yeah,
Those 6 picks should be lauded because they were spectacular, nobody does it like Manning, he's perfect. Did you see him making changes on the line and all the WR's responding to the adjustments? Poetry in motion. Next up for Peyton ... possible injury. |

Manning does get a free pass too often but I remember Favre getting many free passes as well. Especially after that St. Louis playoff debacle. |

Minus Favre's media frothings, the whole Manning Family thing is sickening ...

That is why I think the QB position is the most overrated in sports. Yes, QB is the most impactful position in sports, but QBs do not affect the game nearly as much as most fans and the media seem to think. I myself have been quite guilty of this. |

Yep, let's not forget all the free rides Favre's gotten over the years from his many bobos in the media. |

Come on you homers... Manning just doesn't throw as many picks as Favre does. He is a more cerebral QB, that doesn't mean he is better, but he definitely manages the game better than Favre does and typically doesnt have the meltdown games like Brett has in the past.
Does that make Manning a better QB, I don't think so, I think Favre does more things as far as leadership and producion goes and has produced with lesser talent at the WR position. Given similiar lines at similiar ages Favre and Manning are similiar in production, but the advantage goes to Manning when it comes to INT's. This shouldn't be hard to argue. Dr.Z on the other hand has had a Jones for Favre bashing for years, who cares what the goon thinks, it just helps convince the public that Favre is on the quick slippery decline and it keeps the oddsmakers at bay by not favoring GB so I can win money weekly (until this week... -10.. wtf). |

One thing the media hasn't factored in here, is that Favre did his playing over the years with a constantly changing lineupand with multiple coaches. Manning has not had to deal with that as much. His receivers, and offense in general, have been fairly stable over the years. It would be interesting to see him perform with the same turnover and players that Favre has had to deal with. I'm not saying Manning would have done better or worse. But, with what Brett's had to deal with over the years, he has done remarkably well.

Watching Favre's game management this year as well as recalling other instances earlier in his career (e.g. Packers' infrequent use of no-huddle offenses, or drives near the end of a half or game, when he had weapons), I would take issue with this. He may not be as manic at the line as Peyton, and of course he has the good old boy persona going on, but Brett knows his stuff. Credit to him and MM this year for recognizing this and taking advantage of it. |

i doubt you will find anyone that would say favre is more cerebral than Manning. I dont think any QB in the history of the NFL is as cerebral as Manning with regards to the game and management of offense.

I've never understood why there isn't a football equivalent to baseball's "wild pitch vs. passed ball." When a ball hits the receiver in his chest, bounces up into the air, and is snagged by the defender, why should the quarterback get the interception? Or why, again, when an offensive lineman is getting beat badly and the defensive lineman tips the ball and an interception occurs? Etc. I guess it's just easier, finally, to pin it on the quarterback, even if it's not his fault on every occasion. Not to mention the receiver running the wrong route on a timing throw.

Dr. Z claims that he's praised Favre a lot this year. Yet he still places him at about 8 or 9 on the all time list of best QBs--and it sounded like there were a few others that he thought might've been better.

He obviously has issues with Favre. That is not a column I read and for good reason. His opinions are incredibly colored. |
