Actually, he spent his offseason out here in San Diego, hanging at the beach and playing video games.

From Press-Gazette at today's fan fest"
"Rodgers has been living with his brother in San Diego during the offseason. Because the news broke about 6:30 a.m. Pacific time Tuesday, Rodgers was groggy from a late night of video gaming when people began calling."

From Fanfest ---- Rodgers was cool as usual, saying all the right things as if he's already rehearsed his responses to the "how do you fill Favre's shoes" question, which he will undoubtedly get nonstop from now until 2009 at least.

He deflected some of the attention with his classic dry humor. When asked if he's grown at all in the three years he's been here, he said, "no, I'm still about 6 foot 2."

The timing of Favre's retirement did surprise Rodgers, but not necessarily the retirement itself.

"It really hasn't completely hit me yet because I've pretty much been the No. 1 guy for the last March, April and part of May until Brett gets back," said Rodgers. "Until training camp hits I think it's going to be an offseason as usual."

I'm not going to blame McCarthy if Rodgers flops. Maybe Rodgers isn't that good. Maybe he'll struggle with injuries, like lots of otherwise talented players in the league have done. Who knows? Even Holmgren went through a couple of QBs in Seattle before dealing for Hasselbeck (he even benched Hasselbeck for Dilfer at one point).
It's interesting that when Rodgers replaced Favre in the Dallas game things weren't really scaled down any for Rodgers. McCarthy was running the same 3, 4, and 5 wide receiver sets that he ran with Favre. I'm sure McCarthy would like to run the ball even more this next year, but judging from that one game things on offense might not look a whole lot different with Rodgers under center.

I don't know that that's particularly meaningful. When Rodgers came into the game we were losing 27-10. Not only were we behind by 3 scores, but given the points Dallas had put up in less than a half, McCarthy had reason to think we'd need to score 40 points to win. I realize we made the game close ultimately, but I think McCarthy might have gone more conservative if it were a tie game when Rodgers entered. (Or if our defense wasn't being abused.)

That could be .. at least it was nice to see that Rodgers was able to handle the situation well. It at least makes me feel confident that we won't have to endure a totally simplified, stone aged, looking offense with Rodgers at the helm.
