Some reading you guys:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=3450317

Interesting snippets:

"He has a cannon," wide receiver Greg Jennings said. "We call him the 'Human Jugs Machine.' He throws it like a Jugs machine every time.

"He can make every throw on the football field, and his deep ball is one of the prettiest. Brett had a great deep ball, but Aaron has a beautiful one."

Jennings said there are some throws Rodgers makes that have more velocity than Favre's. As a young receiver, Jennings can only speak about Favre in his later years. "We knew that coming in that Aaron throws a lot harder, so it's not a surprise," the third-year Packer said.

Let's see, we have the opinion of a wide receiver who has actually caught passes from both quarterbacks and the opinion of a truly ignorant person who hasn't caught a single pass from either quarterback. Whose opinion do I trust? This is a tough one...

Well he did catch some balls from Craig Nall, but I don't think they were footballs...

Exactly. The article also prefaces that they were talking about Favre in the last two years. At the same point in time in their careers I'm sure Favre had a edge.

It's killing you to be wrrr wrrrrrr wrrrrrrrrroonnnggg isn't it?

kneeslap

Craig Nall will save us!

A young QB couldn't ask for a better position to be placed in. Like I said before, if Rodgers doesn't succeed he will have nobody to blame but himself. Well, maybe he can blame the-icon for not believing in him heheh

Until I hear stories of Rodgers consistently dislocating his WR's fingers, I don't believe he has a stronger arm than #4. Can I believe he throws prettier passes or better deep balls? Absolutely. Favre wasn't the greatest technician to ever play QB...hell, Carson Palmer is probably a better technique guy. But I wouldn't want that douche on my team for free.

Yes, it is a fluff piece, but I also think the future is very bright for Rodgers, and the Packers. He could very easily become the Steve Young to Favre's Joe Montana.

Huh? Nobody says Rodgers has a stronger arm than Favre. Look at the actual quotes.

"Has a prettier deep ball" (Lots of QBs with weaker arms throw better deep balls than Favre; that's more about accuracy than arm strength). "We knew coming in that Aaron throws a lot harder" (Throwing harder, also not the same as having a stronger arm.) "He's just throws hard," wide receiver Donald Driver said. "He's just one of those guys who doesn't have any touch at all." "Jennings says some of Rodgers' throws come out with more velocity than Favre." (If Rodgers throws harder AND has a stronger arm, wouldn't ALL of his throws have more velocity than Favre? In this case it's that he throws harder -- probably a reference to the ones Driver mentions that have no touch.)

I should start a thread titled "Driver rips Rodgers." In it I'll use his quote: "He doesn't have any touch at all."

Er, back off, big man. Icon has a perspective that neither you not Jennings can boast of. He has personally snuggled up to Craig Nall's left testicle without the benefit of prophylactics.

Again. Throwing hard and arm strength are not the same thing.

What I got out of it is that Rodgers is only capable of throwing at one velocity -- as hard as he can. That's not a good thing, but he'll undoubedtly learn. Favre wasn't much different when he was young. He just gunned it as hard as he could on evey pass.

As the years went on, Favre learned (grudgingly) to tailor the velocity to the play. He threw as hard as he needed to for the situation. Rodgers will learn that too, probably more quickly than Favre did.

I only saw one of Rodgers college games, the one that he completed something like 22 or 23? passes in a row. I remember thinking that guy got some "touch" on those balls. Nice arc and easily catchable for the recievers. They looked nothing like Favre's throws. Maybe in the last 3 years he's changed his delivery, but he certainly knew how to throw with "touch" back then. Check out a tape of that game if you can find it.

Are you talking about my post? That's not my opinion vs Drivers. I'm talking about a college game 4 years ago where Rodgers was obviously throwing differently than he does now to Driver. Check out a tape of that game, no way you come away with the opinion that Rodgers throws hardballs, fastballs or wtfever were talking about.

I was just screwing with you. I have no doubt that Rodgers can throw with touch and Driver's statement was just hyperbole.

Ya I think this is all crap from the Packer WRs who are trying tell us Rodgers has "STRONG" arm so we don't start calling him "noodlearm" too soon. There aren't ANY QBs in the NFL who can't throw with "touch" less than 50% of the time they try it. A lot of times the only way a pass can make it into the catch window is with an "ARC". I doubt you could even be a college QB let alone an NFL QB without the ability to throw a "touch" pass.

And the opponent was none other than USC

Rodgers has some skills and I think one of his strengths is touch on long passes.

As for arm strength, Jennings was on a Milwaukee talk show talking about Rodgers' arm strength. Not that he could compete with Favre but he's also not some noodle armed guy either.
