2nd highest...eh too much, but I think in the end it will be worth it. Jennings is a great talent and its great to see that He and Rodgers will be connecting for TD's for quite a while |

BTW, glad Jennings is on the roster this coming year. With a contract like that I took him off "bubble" status.

It's apparently a 3-year extension. That makes sense for both sides. Jennings will get to be an UFA at the age of 29 and the Packers don't have to fork over an enormous signing bonus.
I really like TT's approach to re-signing players. He usually keeps the deals relatively short (3 or 4 years). That keeps the Packers from having to pay out ridiculous signing bonuses and it protects the salary cap in future years. |

Don't worry. TT is surely saving a special stash to load up on the Immortal John Kuhn. |

This can't possibly be true. I mean Favre himself hated how Ted never spent any money on playmakers. WTF?

Wondering how much of it is tied to incentives, both easy to reach ones and difficult.
Not that I think he's going to go Antonio Freeman on us. The short contract gives him another big payday in 2012, it seems. Is it three years added on to this year, or this year ripped up and turned into three years? |

More Details On Jennings Contract
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 23, 2009, 9:12 p.m. EDT On the heels of a local Green Bay TV report that Greg Jennings’ contract extension has been finalized, more details about the proposed deal are emerging. ESPN.com’s John Clayton says the Packers and Jennings are nearing a three-year contract extension through 2012 that will include a minimum of $27 million in new money. It can be worth as much as $30 million if he performs at a “Pro Bowl level.” Jennings was scheduled to make $535,000 in 2009. Clayton also reports that some language in the contract has to be worked out before it is sent to the NFL Management Council and signed. So it’s not exactly a “done deal” just yet. The original report by Fox6 Sports said Jennings would become the second highest paid receiver in the league, but that is open for interpretation. Clayton’s numbers indicate that Jennings will average under $7 million for the next four seasons. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Roy Williams, and Andre Johnson all make more money per season. Antonio Bryant will make $9.88 million as Tampa’s franchise player in 2009. Still, the deal looks like a fair one for both sides. Jennings didn’t break the bank, but he’s likely to make it to the end of the contract, barring major injuries. He will get to re-enter the free agent market in 2013 at age 29, and possibly strike it rich again. Heck, Brett Favre may have even retired by then. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In TT we trust. Sounds like a smart contract for both sides. |

Thanks Packerboi. I like it better under those conditions, though only $3 million in incentives sure makes the deal look like a great one for Jennings. And again, he'll get to hit the market for another big payday if he keeps playing like he has...

From Clayton at ESPN:
And that's more like what TT would do. A reasonable deal, front load it ala Charles Woodson, avoid overpaying a player, and avoid handcuffing him to a long deal the player will eventually hate (we've seen this backfire on other teams). Very smart football management.. |

Also, by the time this contract is up, they could give him another extension with a bit more cash since his play has "earned" it

Sounds like a reasonable deal for both sides. I'm just happy my replica Jennings jersey will be relevant for a few more years!

Great news. Now get Collins and Driver done and the rest of the off-season is cake...

Why sign Driver? The Packers have two other guys younger than him at this point. I'd be more concerned that if Kampman plays balls out, he's going to need to get paid.

Driver is a great guy and all, but when you look at it from the money standpoint, it may just make more sense to move on without him and bet that Jones and/or Nelson will take his place. The Packers have won with WR corps that were far worse than one that would still have Greg Jennings, James Jones and Jordy Nelson.

I think Driver brings a helluva lot more to the table than that. Plus I don't think he's asking for a breaking of the bank. I think he wants a couple more guaranteed years so he will be able to say that he played his entire acreer in GB. I think he deserves that at the very least.
And let's not forget the guy has not shown signs of slowing down just yet. He was not Rodgers' favrorite target, but I think like Favre, as Rodgers matures he'll get everyone more involved. |

We have a lot of guys who are due for a new contract in '10, I just hope he is only asking for an extension and not a few million more since cap room will be a bit less abundant next year. It would really be awful to lose a guy like Kampman or Collins just to keep together what may be the best WR corps in the NFL.

A 3 yr deal tells me this 'guy' is still not a lock to make the team in 2011.

Looks like Jennings settled for a lot less than he wanted. If he had played out the 09 season and went on the market he would have scored bigtime barring injury.

I missed the context but caught the tail end of a report on ESPN that he signed a long term contract extension. It sounded as if it was longer than the 3 year deal reported last night by John Clayton.

For all intents and purposes, it's a four-year deal worth between $28 and $30 million. About $16 million in guarantees. That's excellent money for a WR who hasn't reached elite status yet. And it's a great deal for the Packers because they don't have to hand over an outrageous signing bonus and they aren't tied into one of those really long-term extensions that could affect future cap years.
