He's been taking a beating in the media, and rightfully so. The guy has not been the RB they thought he'd be (insert Denny Green joke). Every week they talk on the radio and TV about how he can't get 100 yards and his avg. is abysmal.
So today in his first two carries, he busts off 43 yard TD run followed by a 20 yard gain. So he's bound to get 100 yards for the game, right? Gets 9 more carries for 26 yards the rest of the game, including being stopped for a loss on 4th and inches in the first half (definite turning point in the game). I love it!!! Can't wait to hear the radio tomorrow! |

In no way, shape or form can you blame the Bears offense for their loss today. Benson had two big runs to start with but only looked OK after that. Grossman did a real nice job except for one fumble. Berrian and Muhammad both made some great, great catches today. Their offensive line had some problems, especially Fred Miller in pass protection, but overall I thought their line played better than it has the last few games.
But they are a mess defensively right now. Some of their guys aren't fully healthy, but right now they are only missing Vasher and Mike Brown (as usual for Brown) out of the secondary and when you are only missing those two you have to play much better than they did today. That defense got absolutely shredded, I don't know the exact total but the Seahawks had to have had well over 400 yards of offense. The one thing I'll say for sure is that Adam Archuleta won't be a Bear next year. At this point in his career he is just terrible. |

4-6 with the Giants, Skins, Saints and a hopefully pi$$ed off GB team still on the schedule. Stick a fork in the Barfs - it's over for them this year.

Let's not get carried away. I think the best way to put it is, "he didn't screw up!" Brett Favre did a real nice job, Train Rex did not. His WRs helped him a lot.....he owes them all a real nice dinner! |

The sad thing is that the Lions currently have the second wildcard spot at 6-4 and their schedule gets tougher from here on out. I think chances are better than 50/50 that an 8-8 team finds it's way into the playoffs. So even though it doesn't appear that the Bears have any chance, I still think they have a shot to make it. Although the two losses to the Lions and the 2-5 conference record do make them the longest of long shots. |

Don't know if you watched the game or not, but.... -they had absolutely no running game after the first two runs, partly because of poor blocking, partly because the RBs aren't good; -they had quite a few 3 & outs' -they were given terrific field position all game because the 'hawks wouldn't kick to Hester, yet still couldn't score much; -they made a few penalties on first down creating less than optimal conditions; -they couldn't convert on 4th and about 12 inches; -Grossman on many plays had all the time in the world and they couldn't manange to move the ball downfield. Now I'm not blaming the loss on the offense. I put this one on the vaunted Chicago D. But the O didn't do their job IMO. Benson has been awful for them |

No, Favre did a great job. When Grossman puts up an 86.1 rating, completes 65% of his passes, and doesn't throw an interception that is a "real nice job." While I was checking the numbers I see the Bears defense allowed 425 yards. |

I did watch the game and while the points you posted are valid the offense still put 23 points on the board, totaled 345 yards and only committed one turnover and when you add it all up that is good enough to win in the NFL. |

Or at least should be enough with a supposedly 'dominant' defense. The Emperor has no clothes, it appears. Perhaps dumping Rivera and moving his buddy into the DC spot wasn't such a good move. Crony hire?

Field position alone, a better QB, a better running game or a better team would've scored more. Only 1 drive of 60 yards, all the rest were under 60. Seven drives of less than 20 yards.
But yeah, if the D shows, Bears might win. |

At this point, I think almost every team in the NFC has a shot at the wild card. The Cards are playing decent ball and very possibly could win the West. Tampa should win the South. New Orleans keeps collapsing after they look like they're back in. The two legit playoff teams IMO are the Giants and Skins but I'd hope the Cards would get a shot if they don't overtake Seattle. The thing that sucks is some schlock team like the Bears, Panthers, Vikes, or Lions will probably get in. |

so how many teams make the playoffs in your world? there are only 2 wild card spots and neither new york or washington has much of a shot to win the NFC east.

Assuming NY at 7-3 gets in, there are still ten teams with 4, 5 or 6 wins, with 6 games to go. I'd say it's pretty wide open. |

Yeah this pretty much describes it all. This loss was not due to Grossman who overall played well. Its not due to Benson either. After the first 2 big runs he hardly got any carries and on the 4th down play he got ZERO blacks up front and had about ZERO chance. The Bears offensive line disappeared in the 2nd half and they might as well have put a folding chair in place of Fred Miller to improve pass protection.  It goes without saying that the defense really misses Mike Brown and getting Vasher back could help a lot. Rookie McBride filled in pretty well for Vasher the last few games but got burned today. Tommie Harris is playing on one leg and Urlacher has a gimpy back and neither is much better than 80-90% right now. Archuleta is probably gone after this year and is only on the field because the secondary is so thin right now. |

While just about every team except the Rams, 49ers, and Falcons have a shot, I think a realistic guess for the playoffs would be Packers, Cowboys, Seahawks, and Bucs as division winners (the latter two are 2nd tier, but they're playing better than the rest of the field) then the Giants, then either the Cards or Lions. My pick for the last spot would be the Cards, I actually really like what they're doing right now on D, and their skill players are top notch. BTW, is it just me, or is the incessant claim that the AFC is so far superior to the NFC ringing a bit hollow? The worst teams in the NFL are in the AFC. New England and Indy are beating them every week. Pittsburgh is supposed to be this awesome team and the Jets didn't just beat them on some fluke, they played them evenly. The top 3 there are feasting on mediocrity. I personally think the Packers and Cowboys can play with anybody. Dallas had a shot vs. NE if it wasn't for the holding call on the 4th down run. |

Agreed on all points. I think the West is still up in the air but Seattle is a more balanced team and their remaining schedule is pretty easy. Arizona's schedule isn't too tough so they have a legit chance but still seem to drop the ones they should win. Tampa is playing decent with Garcia and Graham. |

It's not just you. The AFC West is a lot weaker than anyone expected, and the Ravens are just plain bad. That leaves the Pats, Colts, Steelers, and Jaguars as the only really good teams in the conference, which is not much different from the NFC (where maybe the Packers, Cowboys, and Giants are the only particularly good teams). Right now the Patriots are No. 1, but there's a group at 2-10 that's probably evenly composed of AFC and NFC teams. |

Nope not just you,especially after the last few weeks of the AFC side. Jets beat Steelers? Indy just barely beats KC? Beside the Pats,the AFC is just as normal as the NFC. |

The fact that Thomas Jones had an excellent day against a tough Steeler defense yesterday will only increase the second-guessing in Chicago about their running back situation.
The bottom line is that the Bears simply aren't a very good team. |
