Nothing terribly revelatory here... other than the sense it's quite a goat-rope. Max could be getting his circus! |

After reading this, I have that much more respect for Ted Thompson.

I love the guy too. He absolutely doesn't play to the masses -- any of them.

Silverstein is continuing to post on the JSO blog. Here's his latest entry, regarding TT's dancing away from any trade talk.

Great work TT. The more I think about Brett, I sense some mental health issues. The drug and alcohol issues not only experienced by Brett, but by Scott and his sister Brandi and her run-ins with the law. Maybe Irv, was more like the 'Great Santini', pushing and driving his son into football. Brett it seems only knows football, When asked what he was going to do in retirement, I remember him saying he was going to do nothing, maybe it's more that he's ill-prepared for life after football.

Great insight, Jody. I think the whole thing is a result of the jock mentality. These guys not only are used to thinking that they are better than other people (obviously not all their fault for that feeling) but that they are what they do. Most of us are ourselves first, what we do second.

Thanks Half Empty, I think it's even got to the point that his family (Mother, brother, sister, cousins, in-laws, etc.) has lived off of him and his name, that'll do and say anything to hold onto the fame. Looking from the outside, Deanna appears to be outnumbered, I truly think she wants Brett at home. |

It's funny, whenever Thompson or Favre speak for themselves they come off as sympathetic and genuine. But when the information comes second hand, it makes both sides sound like selfish stubborn buffoons. Everyone seems to be picking sides, and viewing every nugget of info they find through that lens. It's hard for me to believe that either side is without blame.

Looks like you could prescribe him some grade-A, top-shelf hyperbole to help. Just like the election season among us, there's some real wacked out analysis on both sides of this issue. |

In the end, as so often has been the case, the Packers "fans" will be wrong once again, and Thompson will be right. Then, the Packers "fans" will not say a word about how wrong they were, but will move on to the next episode. The key in all of this is to paint Thompson's demeanor as sinister, his quietude and professionalism as arrogant and egotistical. I am a Packers fan, but I think the most deserving thing the Packers "fans" could get is for Thompson to lead this team to the Superbowl and then to leave the team one minute later. No one deserves the amount of crap that he's gotten.

Wow, you make it sound like there's some kind of consensus on any of this. I don't know about other boards ('cause they all suck), but on this one there's far more anti-Favre sentiment than there is anti-Thompson. (Then there's those few of us who like both of them.) I think TT's done everything right so far and as of yet don't have a problem with Favre, either. I guess things could change, but I pretty much feel the way I've always felt; nothing of late has changed my mind overly much, and I'm kind of doubtful anything will. I'm looking forward to the training camp battle, should be a hoot. |

The "fans" not the fans. Perhaps I've been reading too many of the commenters at the JSONLINE site following the articles. It's like upsidedown land over there. You'd think Thompson had turned a Superbowl champion into a 3-13 team. |

THAT is the best analysis of this whole mess that I've seen yet. Thank you. |

I haven't yet been able to figure out how any of this is Thompson's fault. |

I hope you're kidding. Thompson should have held a "Welcome Back Favre" party back in April prior to the draft. Seriously though, my level of respect for Thompson is at an all-time high right now. |

The anti-Thompson crap is so entrenched that even when Favre is 100% responsible for the state of affairs, we still get these "even-handed blame" assessments. You know that, "well, there's blame on both sides." No, there's not blame on both sides! Brett Favre is the one who's monkeying around, causing all this crap. Thompson's just trying to deal with Favre's fricking nonsense. |
