Some of those Viking fans cracked me up in the comments section. It seems their fans are split into: 25% homers, 25% realists, 50% in the middle. The realists bring up the same 2 questions we all have been asking: T-Jack and Childress. The homers say T-Jack will bust out and they will have the best defense in the league.

What I enjoy more is that those teams repeatedly fail to recognize/address the position. Granted Favre was a once in a generation player but he kept GB competitive when they were talent-deficient overall. The Vikes/Bears have good overall talent The Vikes w/ even a mediocre QB would look awfully good IMO; granted there's still the coach. Ultimately, the Vikes make offseason moves that get attention but haven't panned out. Conversely, the Packers have at least a 2 yr h/o acquiring/developing talent. In the end my GUESS is most GM's/coaches would prefer ARod over anybody in CHI/MN... |

What are everyone's thoughts on this very subject?
When I look at it, I think the Lions are not to be taken for granted, but I still think they are only at best the 3rd best team. Chicago is a mess on offense. Sexy Rexy, a list of crap WRs, a lower tier OL, and RBs that don't excite you. Obviously, their defense, if healthy, can keep them in games. So I think it comes down to Minnesota and the Pack. While both teams have unproven QBs, the defenses are "close" to each other. I'll give Minnesota the narrow edge on defense. Green Bay has superior WRs (way overpaid for Berrian), Peterson when healthy is a better player than Grant, but the GB scheme + Grant does not give up a lot. Minnesota has the better OL (thanks Colledge). But it comes down to QB. I'll take Rodgers over Jackson. Jackson has some physical talent, but has done nothing to show me he can win and be the focal point. While Rodgers is certainly unproven, the Dallas game goes a long way for me. Thrown into the fire, he really did deliver....far more shown in that 3/4 of a game than Jackson has shown in two seasons. In fact, in the event that Rodgers doesn't finish the season, I like a Brian Brohm over anyone Minnesota has. Sure, I haven't seen him in the NFL. But I still would feel better with him than I would with Jackson/Frerotte. Neither of them are taking you anywhere. The Packers offense is going to be interesting to see develop. I'm curious to see how Rodgers does the short field WCO that Favre really came alive with last season. I'll take.... Green Bay 11-5 Minnesota 9-7 Detroit 7-9 Chicago 5-11 - they simply cannot overcome the horrible offense they've assembled. |

I like us... and then don't care after that. It's hard to believe but the Vikings haven't passed for more than 267 yards in a single game since the last game of the '05 season. That's TWO FULL SEASONS of no 300 yard passing games. Last year they could sure run it but I don't think we'll ever see a stat line like this again... They only passed for 111 yards more than they ran for on the season. Only 4 200+ passing games. Shocking. Shocking. Also, I didn't realize the Vikes have been no better than 9-7 for the last SEVEN years. |

I'm not 100% sold on that. I'll take a Chad Clifton over Bryant Mckinnie any day of the week. Mckinnie is probably the most overrated player on that team and possibly in the NFC North. KGB worked him over to the tune of 5 sacks this past season (3 in the 1st game and 2 in the 2nd). He's athletic and is a good run blocker but is slow as pass blocker. Who is their RT? Isn't it that Ryan Cook? He never impressed me at all. I'll definitely take Tauscher over him. Wells vs. Birk? I'll give a slight edge to Birk because he's a little bigger and stronger but Wells is no slouch. Birk isn't as good as he used to be and his recent trips to the Pro Bowl are joke and he only got voted because of his reputation. It comes down to the Guards. Obviously Hutchinson is an All-Pro and is light years better than Colledge. At RG, they have Artis Hicks. Pickett abused him in the 1st game. I would say Hicks vs. Spitz is a wash. So really, when you break it down, the Packers Oline and Vikes Olines are equal. Packers are much better outside and the Vikes are better inside. |

I think all our division opponents have just enough talent on their teams to be 'dangerous'. Generally, if we don't turn the ball over, and are efficient on offense, I don't think there's any way any of them can hang with us. Or other mid- to upper-tier teams, for that matter. And they can't play consistently enough outside the division to ever be a threat to us.
More often than not, our divisional games are close, hard-fought games. There's always the possibility of turnovers, poor play, injury, even weather(!) can swing these games either way. Not to mention we have been the team with the bullseye for what, the last 16-17 years? The Lions, Bears, and Vikes all want to "beat the Pack", and (supposedly) build their teams to do just that. Thank God we have a superior front office/management, not to mention coaching!  |

Pride commeth before the fall. I should know--I was pretty damn proud at the beginning of last season  .The Bears were the general pre-season favorite to repeat last year (there were no other teams in the division that could mount a challenge according to most pundits) and we know how that turned out. The Pack are my pick to repeat, but they've got some questions, and as fast as fortunes can turn in today's NFL, I wouldn't be too cocky. Mine was knocky-offied last year  . B-N-D |
