Four selected, plus 3 first alternates and 7 second/third alternates.

Four Packers Earn Pro Bowl Selections
posted 12/18/2007

Represented by two selections on each side of the ball, the Green Bay Packers learned Tuesday that quarterback Brett Favre, wide receiver Donald Driver, defensive end Aaron Kampman and cornerback Al Harris were named Pro Bowl selections by the National Football League.

Three Packers players were named first alternates: linebacker Nick Barnett, tackle Chad Clifton and cornerback Charles Woodson.

For Favre, this marks the ninth Pro Bowl selection of his career and first since 2003. This season, the NFC's leader in passing yards has broken some of the league's most hallowed records, including career touchdown passes, passing yards and wins.

Driver earns his second consecutive and third career Pro Bowl selection. He tied a franchise record with 1,000 receiving yards in a fifth overall season, joining Sterling Sharpe and Pro Football Hall of Famer James Lofton as one of three Packers to achieve that feat.

Kampman, in his sixth season out of Iowa, returns to Hawaii for the second consecutive year. The defensive end has started 72 consecutive games for the Packers and stands tied for third in the NFC with 12 sacks.

Harris is the only Packers player making his first trip to the Pro Bowl. In his 10th NFL season and fifth with Green Bay, he has totaled 36 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass deflections.

Other alternates include safety Nick Collins, tight end Bubba Franks, running back Ryan Grant, linebacker A.J. Hawk, wide receiver Greg Jennings, tight end Donald Lee and center Scott Wells.

I'm very surprised that Woodson was snubbed, and equally surprised that Driver made it. Thought the lack of TDs would hurt him. Disappointed that Barnett got snubbed as well.

Plenty of Vikings to go around though, including Mr. Sharpier. And he's a starter. Dammit TT!

Actually I thought EJ Henderson should have made this squad. He's more than deserving along with Barnett.

But, Bubba made it as an alternate, so he must be having a pretty good year

He can make it outright next year as a Viking.

I would take Woodson over Harris any day. Harris got beaten badly by Owens and, with the notable exception of the Seattle playoff game several years ago, has not displayed the playmaking ability that Woodson has.

Harris was long overdue for a pro bowl but Woodson should have made it the last 2 years.

Just goes to show you that the voting is mostly based on "past performance" and not the current season.

Dallas has 11 players, GB has 4.

McCarthy will be using this well into the playoffs. Thank you Pro Bowl voters!

Harris is charged with the responsibility of taking the oppositions #1 WR every week. Aside from the Dallas game this year, Harris has been solid. Sure, Woodson has made more big plays, but in terms of actually shutting down the opposition, Harris does a better job. I am guessing that most players, including Woodson himself, would concede that Harris is the better of the two. We have all heard numerous WRs argue that Harris is the best CB in the league. One of the major reasons Woodson has so many opportunities to make big plays is because Harris is on the other side.

In the end, I think Harris AND Woodson should have made it.

Packers that got hosed: Woodson & Barnett

I really don't know what Barnett has to do to make it.

Harris has not played that well the last few weeks - Pete Prisco of cbs sportsline calls Woodson by far the biggest snub.

I agree that Woodson is the biggest snub. Like I said, Harris AND Woodson should have made it.

I think Favre, Kampman, and Barnett should have been in for sure. I think Woodson, Driver, Lee and Jennings were all borderline types.

Basically I guess I'd say Barnett got screwed, and Harris got in based on last years performance. Based on this year he didn't deserve a pro bowl selection.

Jason Wilde commented earlier today that Barnett admits he tends to piss off a lot of opponents and that may factor against him. Maybe it did... Don't know if Nick is an a-hole but (apparently) he knows other players don't like him much.

I will not say forever because this really meant something 35 years ago, but for a very long time this is mostly nothing more than a media darling list. Having fans as part of the voting block insures that. No one watches that game so it certainly isn't because they're trying to get viewers.

Dallas with 11 is a joke. Minnesota with 7 is a lie.

Another thing that is really bothering me with all of these polls is the fact that rookie and 2nd year players are annointed as the best that ever played the game. If you would believe the idiots last night or the horrible announcers during the Packer-Dallas game you'd think that Pederson and Romo walk on water. Pederson has only played 11 games - 11 GAMES! and Romo has only started about 22 - 22 GAMES! There is no way either of these guys is the greatest or even close. They are good but let's hold off on sainthood until they prove it over time. Media BS.
