NO thanks. Fitzgerald is good, but only if we are in desperate need.

Collins and a second? If they'd take that HELL YEAH! Shep and a second, if true, is worth more, but HELL YEAH! Fitz is a horse. If you can get one for even a modestly unreasonable price, you get one.

Where is it stated that this is even a rumor? Or is this one of those 'idea' threads? I haven't seen this anywhere. Not to mention, this sounds like one of those deals GB would be foolish not to do, but the AZ GM would be fired on the spot for if he did do. A second and Collins for LF?

BTW - is Collins becoming the new Turd Ferguson, in that folks will think he's the guy that puts the deal over the top for the other team even though he's decidedly average? I think X4 traded Turd Ferguson for at least 7 HOF players, so if that's what this is, great - just wanna know now.

The Eagles and Buccaneers and Bears are the remaining teams that are DESPERATE for a playmaker receiver. You guys have two excellent receivers. I think either Philly or Tampa will be the ones that give a whole lot more than the Packers simply cause we NEED him more.

I dunno No?

The problem with TB is they have nothing to give that would make Arizona willing to part with Fitzgerald. Trust me it has been debated on radio for about two days. The only piece that is expendable is Simms and he is worth very little at this point. It's a cold reality for TB fans but very true when you think about it.

I didn't realize you had to touch the ball to have an impact on the game.

Isn't Shockey just as "available" and wouldn't he make more sense?

Oh God NO!! I don't want Shocky ever coming close to Aaron Rodgers, at least not in this stage of his career.

clap1 I think you nailed that one spot on.

Like most here, I'd make that trade with no hesitation. The simple fact is, as you pointed out, that the Arizona GM would be run out of town if he made that trade. Sheppard and Philly's 2nd is something he may be able to pull off with less uproar, but Nick Collins? AZ fans will want blood if that deal went through.

He doesn't play defense or OL so yeah it's pretty important to get your hands on the ball. I don't think anyone is going to pay him $60 million to be a decoy or a downfield blocker.

I'd gladly give up 1st and 3rd round for someone like Steve Hutchinson who would fill an obvious need and have a significant impact on Aaron Rodgers development.

????? If you trade for Fitzgerald....he becomes your "younger" guy!

He's got a lot of upside. You don't say "no" to this trade because of your young guys. You say "no" to the Moss deal because of that. But not for this. Fitzgerald has 10 good years in front of him.

I'm not saying you make the deal....just that if it's favorable, he's worthy of a long term investment. He's a guy that can be a premier player. And the Packers could freakin' give him a heavily front loaded contract and make the cap not pay for this. Jennings and James Jones don't make you have to make this move though.

The better guy to go after though, is Lito Shepard. That fills a need today.

The object of a salary cap is to field a good team. Good young players are worth investing in. If the Packers choose to do so, this would be a nice move.

Anybody remember the David Boston trade rumor several years ago when he was a Dolphin? Most on TimesFour jumped all over that one. And it was just something somebody made up. Just like this one.

DEFINITELY the most accurate post in the last decade. i whole heartedly agree, we didn't want Ferguson (or in this case Collins), why would a team give up a pro bowl player for them. Some people need to wake up.

LOL! There wasn't a trade suggested that didn't have Ferguson as part of the package. Ferguson and 3rd for this and this...a 3rd, a 5th, and Ferguson for this and this. I was guilty of it a couple times and now I realize how dumb that was. He had absolutely no value.

Can't blame you, GD. If a player is no good, why keep him? By all means, trade him for a future Hall of Famer. That is good management.

The Arizona Cardinals and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald reached agreement on a blockbuster four-year, $40 million contract that will free up much-needed salary cap room for the team.

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3287855

Fitzgerald announced the deal on his Web site, saying he will make $33 million over the first three years of the contract.

Over the final two years of his old deal, Fitzgerald was scheduled to make $14,592,500 in 2008 and $17,355,000 in 2009. That put the team in a tight cap bind -- with less than
