Hypothetically, if Green Bay comes out of the shute 1-4 and Rodgers has struggled in each game contributing largely to the losses, when does Brohm get a shot, escpecially if Brohm looked good in preseason.
I think the fact that they took Brohm and Flynn says they want Rodgers to be pushed or pushed out if thats what happens. I think Brohm will develop nicely. |

I think McCarthy makes a change if Rodgers gets hurt. That's it. Even if we start 1-4, I think Rodgers deserves at least one season to figure things out. If we actually do face your hypothetical situation at 1-4, what could we really expect from Brohm? He'd probably be worse than Rodgers in any scenario I can imagine.
The only exception to this is if Rodgers decides to go Grossman on us. Then McCarthy needs to pull the plug STAT. (Mad props to you, DeepChicago |

I agree with fdl. Rodgers should be the man next season without having to look over his shoulder. He's going to have enough pressure on him already without having to deal with the whole backup QB controversy. The only way he should be taken out of a game is due to injury and hopefully that isn't going to happen.

Well if we started out of the gate 1-4, we would still be tied for 1st in the North, and a game ahead of Da Bears. No need to panic

Favre's first couple of seasons in GB showed promise at times, but also showed why you have to play in order to really get good. And in the process turns into this 3 time MVP, HOF QB.
Hasselback's first season in Seattle was less than stellar. He turned out ok. Payton Mannings first season as starter in Indy was so, so. But you might say it worked out well for him. His brother Eli finally gets it together and his team wins the SB. But it took longer than expected. Even Bart Starr - remember him? - was around for a few seasons before a guy named Vince showed up, and gradually turned him into the QB who I believe still holds the record for yards per pass attempt - not to mention 5 NFL championships. Moral of the story is, you got to pick a GOOD guy and show some faith in him. That would eliminate that guy in Chicago. I think AR is a good guy. |

One of the many beauties of having Brett around for the past 15 years is that we didn't have to worry about having these silly QB controversies. Those were the good old days. Well, back to reality... Back in 93 and 94, there were frequent calls to bench Favre in favor of Brunell, Detmer or whoever else they had. It's a good thing that Holmy didn't make any knee-jerk decisions like that and stuck with the Gunslinger. Rodgers is a first-round pick and he's been sitting around in storage for three years while most everyone else taken in the 2005 draft have been playing nearlye very game. You'd better believe that he's going to get every chance in the world to be the starter because of the major investment made in him, not only in terms of the first-round pick spent on him but also the three years invested in him. |

Win now is the theme that motivates the NFL. I think MM and TT will not be too hesitant to pull Rodgers if'n he lays numerous eggs in the first 4-5 games of the season. But I think Rodgers will play well.
Perhaps the better question to ask is "at what point will the team need a change at QB"? Meaning if the players believe in Rodgers, then MM will leave him in as long as it takes to win. But if the team doubts Rodgers and he struggles...then, "pop" goes the plug. |

I agree. It will kind of depend on the circumstances. It's hard to just say, "ok, if the Pack loses 4 of their first 5 Rodgers gets benched." It depends on how well he performs individually, how much the other guys look to him as the leader, and how the offense executes with him under center. Plus AR does have three years of experience, which are hard to replace. It took him a couple years to function well in this offense, and there's a good chance it will take Brohm awhile to adjust to the NFL game and MM's coaching style as well. |

I think MM is smart enough to not let a QB 'controversy' develop. If Rodgers plays poorly, the media will generate their own, of course, but good/bad/ugly ARod is our man, and, IMO, MM stays the course with him.

Actually dinasours appeared on earth about 230 million years ago and went extinct about 65 million years ago. They inhabited our earth for about 160 million years. |

Not sure why you and some others are being so quick to write off Rodgers. He has had 3 years behind Brett to learn the system but has had no chance to show what he can do. Brohm would be just a rookie and not know the system nearly as well and have had NO experience in the league. A good back-up perhaps, but not our starting QB. Rodgers did a very good job in Dallas after Favre was hurt especially considering the fact that he did not have the chance to take many reps in practice. I think that when he knows he will be a starter and is given the reps in practice, that he will surprise a lot of people and be very good. No, he will NOT be another Favre, but then who would?? |

It doesn't seem to be MM's personality to hit the panic button so drastically as to throw a rookie QB into the fire 5 games into his first season. Unless AR gets injured, he's probably the man for the entire 2008 season. Evaluations will then be made after the season.
