Just saw on the KSTP channel 5 news that vikings DE Kenechi Udeze has been diagnosed with leukemia. There is no link to the story on their website as of yet.
Rivals or not, I think we can all agree that we wish for the best possible outcome for Kenechi. |

Very sad... lets hope he wins the most important battle though, and pray for people who get this news everyday.... |

Yikes, this is the one that killed my Dad. It's a bitch of a disease. Hopefully, nothing but the best for him and his family.

Cancer sucks .....period. Took the life of my wife's best friend at 25.
Another one of her friend's has a 5 year old who has been battling cancer for the last year. Good luck to Udeze and his family. Don't let the bastard win. |

I lost my grandmother to that bitch of a disease a few years ago and loved Udeze at USC. Here's hoping he comes through and avoids any nasty relapses for a long, long time.

Thanks to all of you for your posts on this thread.
As Yuck said, "Cancer sucks" I'm a cancer survivor as of 11/06/06. The day I learned I had it was one of the worst days of my life. The next day I finally realized how lucky I was that they caught mine early and that if the surgeons did their job right I should lead a normal life. I hope Udeze is as lucky as I am! |

No, but I did appreciate the sincere comments about a VIKINGS player that is facing a nasty disease. |

How magnanimous of you. Good luck Kenechi (the actual individual). |

As he'd no doubt appreciate you derailing the thread to talk about yourself. Again, best of luck to the guy the discussion was originally about. |

Leukemia can come up at any age. I know a couple kids and a teenager who died of that. Best wishes to Udeze.

A friend of mine had leukemia last winter. It shook up his life pretty bad, but he had a great spirit and is a very athletic dude, and he made it out OK. Best wishes for Udeze.

Good luck to Udeze, and also continued good luck to "The Champ". Champ, hopefully you never have to through anything like that again. That had to be an awful thing to go through.

He's had a rough go since he came into the league with injury and performance issues but this is real life stuff now (i.e. it matters).
Good luck to him regardless of what team he plays for. He's a young guy that should be in the prime of his life and this is by far the biggest battle he'll face. |

Udeze was on the Dan Barriero show on KFAN yesterday afternoon. The leukemia is in remission, but he will still be having a bone marrow transplant done in about a month. He related a story about how he went to vikings HQ to visit some of his teammates. When he told one of them that he needed a bone marrow transplant, the player responded with "Oh man! You've gotta have all of your bones replaced?"

Thanks to both of you! I'm still doing fine and have my next followup appointment on Wednesday. I'm lucky to live as close to the Mayo Clinic as I do...
That comment is hilarious!!! Hope Kenechi's remission is permanent... |

I really think the topic of leukemia has received enough attention.
