Hater. I was a goalie, not a wimpy mid-fielder like Goalline. I ever tell you guys I could drop-kick a soccer ball 65 yards?

So as I joke and laugh, I also have a kind of sick feeling in my stomach when I think about the action Crosby has on the ball because it may be what does or doesn't put us in the Super Bowl ...

Yeah...I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on that one. You hit a ball high, you're putting top-spin on it, and likely not kicking it very far. Whatever, I'm no expert either and I'm sure if Crosby read this thread he'd take us all to school.

- Ahh, yeah ... say Peter, By high I meant, at the center of the ball ... you see as a kicker a ball is divided into 3rds.

Hitting the top 3rd is what you are talking about, top spin and one of the ways you on-side kick (Top 3rd kick and beatin into the ground for the first hop to be high).

Hitting middle third can give the knuckleball effect and is NOT the sweet spot for a kicker.

Somewhere in the bottom 3rd on "a football"(Blair) is the sweet spot for any soccer style kicker.

I must re-iterate I stayed very comfortably in a Holiday Inn Express last night ...

Crosbys sweet spot on FGs IS the middle of the ball. It KNUCKLES. It moves left to right and back right and visa versa. If he hit the top third of the ball it would rotate end over end clockwise, rapidly. If he hit the bottom third it would rotate end over end counterclockwise, rapidly (this is the usual method for greatest distance). It kunckles because the fat part of the ball isn't rotating much and the end over end speed is slow. Which is the cause of any ball doing the Knuckle.
Go watch some more film rookie Big Grin

He's talented enough to make it work for him because he still manages to contact the ball in the sweet spot, but as he gets older hopefully he'll learn to ease off just a bit, as when that happens the ball will go even further and straighter.

- Wanna bet? Smiler

If he hit it in the sweet spot, a football would do what it suppose to do end over end ... its all in the hold and the tilt.

Sure. Honestly, I do know what I'm talking about here. It's not often I'll say that, because I usually have no clue, but this is one of those times where I do. He's blasting the ball, and he's found a swing that works for him right now, even if it isn't perfect. I'll 'bet' he gets that figured out with an offseason of training and not having to beat out an incumbent for a job .

- Agreed its where he is hitting it, that doesn't make it a sweet spot ... right now he is the Brett Favre of kicking in that you don't teach an NFL kicker to succeed with this technique but its working.
