I have been very impressed with the way he picks up the scheme and the way he is able to communicate it.
Other tidbits: On Aaron Rouse... What kind of strides have you seen from Aaron Rouse?) Aaron Rouse is having an excellent offseason. I'll tell you, he is very instinctive. He is getting his hands on the ball. You can see the comfort level of Aaron as a second-year player. It's kind of been the pattern around here for our young players, and I like that. It tells that the players are taking advantage of the program and the teaching. He is coming on. He is going to be someone that has a chance to maybe have an impact this year. I'm really pleased with him. I can't say enough about the way he has picked it up and his production is something that stood out in his limited opportunities last year as a rookie, and he really has picked up on that. (How much of an opportunity will he get to work with the first unit?) There is competition throughout and that's another position. I think Atari Bigby is really coming on strong. Nick Collins is as talented of a player that we have in our back end of the defensive perimeter. Charlie Peprah is another young man that just continues to improve, so that's an excellent group. You'll see Jarrett Bush at some point start working back there too. There is a lot of talent back there. The competition has definitely picked up, so time will answer that question. What do you like so far about Jordy Nelson?) What I like about Jordy is he is a young player that continues to improve. You go to the first week and he is in a bump-and-run situation against Tramon Williams and Tramon gets an excellent jam on him, and like a lot of players, they are taken back by it. Now you see Jordy is advancing and getting off releases. He sees the bump-and-run every day. He seems to be very bright and he seems to be picking things up at a fast pace, and that's important in our scheme because our receivers play all three positions, four positions in some cases. So I am very, very pleased with that. He has the size and speed and looks like a natural route runner. We're excited about all of our players, but I'm glad he is here. (How has Brandon Jackson looked?) Brandon has really benefited, going all the way back to training camp, from all of the reps he was able to get at a young age. I think now he probably chuckles at that experience because everything came so fast for him and he was thrown into a situation where he was not able to probably learn our offense in a progression like most young guys. I think we are now seeing the benefits of it. He is one of those rare players that has so much natural ability, both in the weight room and on the playing field and he is taking full advantage of it. I think he'll be an impact player for us on special teams, and he looks very comfortable in all aspects of our offense. Very pleased with the progress that Brandon has made, and he really looks comfortable out there. The game has slowed down for him. Today was an excellent illustration of that with all of the different types of blitzes we saw from our defense and some really tough looks, particularly on the backs. I wouldn't get excited if Brohm doesn't play as well as some think he should. Learning an NFL offense these days is a little like getting a college degree. While he might know something about it when he starts, 3 - 4 years down the road he will know it well enough to do it for a living.

I agree with the idea. We'll see what happens when another team is on the field with them. Then we'll find out what was fluff reports, and what was the truth. |

I'm sure Aaron Rodgers appreciated those comments. It isn't very flattering for what he was in Year 1 or Year 2. Brohm is da Bohmb. |

Yeah, absolutely. Just once I'd like to see a head coach in the pre-season say something like this: Reporter: So how's the new kid looking, coach? Coach: Well, not so good, Bill. I mean, don't get me wrong, we're glad that he's here, but we never expected our starter to come to camp wearing a cast. Reporter: But they're taking that off soon, aren't they? Coach: Yeah, the Doc said they should be able to take it off by the end of the week. We just hope he regains feeling in the arm, especially since that's his throwing arm. Reporter: And does he look like a team leader, Coach? Coach: You know it's probably too early to say. Right now most of the players are actually trying to stay away from him due to his violent coughing spasms. You know that's already put a dozen or so of our players out of commission. Reporter: Really a surprise to find out so many of your players never had Chicken Pox as kids, huh? Coach: Holy ****! Ya got that right. Reporter: Well how's he doing learning the playbook? Coach: We're not actually sure that he's been issued a playbook Bill. There are 6 or 7 missing. We're trying to track those down. I know one thing--all these guys have the latest version of Madden football, and they've got those plays down pretty well. Reporter: And are you happy with your depth at the quarterback position? Confident that you won't need to bring anyone else in? Coach: Why? What've you heard? Reporter: Well, just that you've got 2 rookie backups and we all know there are still a few veterans looking for jobs. Coach: Well Bill, you know veterans cost a heap of change, and frankly the owner is going through some tough times. You know, just fuel costs for the charter planes is going to kill us this year. And the cheerleaders want new uniforms this year. So we may have to scrimp a little bit at that position. Reporter: Coach, I know all the fans appreciate hearing from you at this busy time of the year. Hard to believe that the first pre-season game is only about 50 days away. Coach: 50 days? Is that including weekends? Because I thought we had more tim e than that. You're sure about that. (I wish Bob and Ray were still around--I could hear them doing this in my head as I typed this.) |

Can the season start already? This team has no depth. Especially at WR. No talant.
driver - only good player not a #1 jennings - hurt/bust jones - scrub nelson - reach pick martin - joruney man at biest the rest of the guys, bakup arena guys. tt did not adress rb's with guys that couldn't make 80's roster.  Ok...Can the season start? How in the hell can anyone tell me the Packers are going to slip even losing Favre? The team has some young players at RB that are going to improve. We have depth at LB. Depth at OL. Depth in the secondary. We just need our DL to get healthy. |

Sounds like MM is "very pleased" about alot of things.
Yet it's very early in the seasons preparations. I wish a reporter would ask him what he is not pleased with or disappointed about" AND get a truthful answer. |

You're kidding, right. Favre was terrific at the games' most important position last season. We don't even know if Rodgers has what it takes to start at this level. Maybe the Packers won't slip, but to not even consider the possibility is ridiculous. They could slip - a lot. |

Wasnt it just last month MM was talking about Rodgers and how impressed he is with him? I mean, those comments were fine and dandy then. But to hear these comments now...if'n I was Rodgers, I'd be studying my butt off.
Dont get wrong. I hope the best for the Packers and Rodgers. But Brohm has got a lot of positive intrigue on his side. So we'll just wait and see. |

Among whom? Evidently not NFL GMs, considering they were taken nearly two rounds apart. Maybe he means by Sporting News staff writers. When McCarthy was talking up Rodgers in February, people took it as a slam on Favre. Now that he's talking up Brohm it's a slam on Rodgers? It's just positive talk about a young player -- it doesn't have to be a subtle dig at anyone else. |

It's no surprise that Brohm is impressive mentally. He's always been known as a cerebral quarterback. I happen to think that he'll be a better pro than Rodgers, but I'm going to wait to see him against actual competition before I get too excited.

My personal opinion, I would have more of a issue with two rookie QBs behind Rodgers if it wasn't a sharp guy like Brohm. The Vikings have Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dummer being backed up by that old wily Redskin warrior "Plants Face in Wall". |

I have little doubt Brohm dropped due to injury concerns along with how he looked vs. South Florida. That late season trouncing stuck with scouts and GM's. Marino looked horrific in his last college game and he plummeted. I know about the drug allegations, but he looked bad in his last |
