McCarthy, Thompson thrilled to land Saturday
Green Bay Press Gazette

Rob Demovsky 12:54 PM, Mar. 25, 2012
quote:
McCarthy was beaming this afternoon when talking in the lobby of The Breakers Hotel, site of the NFL annual meetings which begin tomorrow, about his newest player, the long-time former Indianapolis Colts starter. It was the first time the Packers have made any public comments about Saturday, who signed on Friday.

“He’s a very impressive individual,” McCarthy said. “He just brings a wealth of experience. I think he’s a really good fit for our offensive room. He’s very available. I was just real impressed with how long he’s played and the number of games he’s played in.”

Meanwhile, Thompson underplayed how unusual it was for him to sign a veteran free agent.

“We’re all very excited,” Thompson said standing outside The Breakers. “He’s a veteran, a very smart veteran. Our coaches are thrilled. They’ve talked to him, and it sounds like a good addition. It sounds like it will be a good fit.” continue

Must stay healthy. 3rd year now, benefit of the offseason, hopefully can finally get over the injuries, so I like his odds to have a great year on the ground.

hmm1 Who was that? Seriously, doesn't ring a bell...

First, I apologize for not addressing this sooner. Anyway, the guys name was Duke Preston - a 6-5, 315 lb, UFA from the Bills. He was cut during the 2009 training camp.

Saturday must have really liked GB:

@jasonjwilde
Thompson also confirmed that he was at Iowa's Pro Day when Jeff Saturday visited the #Packers on March 19.

@jasonjwilde
Thompson: "I did call Jeff before he actually came so he wouldn’t be put (off) that I wasn’t there, and it didn’t seem to bother him."

Great pull, Hungry.

The more I observe TT the more respect I have. The guy is totally devoid of ego. Hell, he probably knows MM is a better salesman than he is.

from the article.

"I decided to do get another look at the multi-time Pro Bowler and his 2011 Colts teammates. I reviewed their Week 17 game against the Jaguars.

They didn’t play great against Jacksonville, and I imagine that they probably played like this all year. If this game was any indication, they were a bad unit. That being said, I don’t think the individual players are that bad. The problem is that all of them do just enough not to get beat."
I don't know how hard these guys were necessarily playing the last game of a 1-15 season. It must be difficult to play motivated when you're essentially playing for nothing. I think Saturday will be re-energized on a competitive team.
