On defense, in honor of Sean Taylor.

One of the coolest things I've ever seen.

That's pretty cool. USC lined up without a kicker this year after their guy was killed over the summer.

I'm sure they ran something into the line - I saw the formation but they didn't show the play.

From the NFL.com play by play

(7:10) 22-F.Jackson left end pushed ob at WAS 46 for 22 yards (30-L.Landry). Redskins' defensive formation included only 10 men in honor of Sean Taylor.

The play was Jackson's and the Bills longest run of the day (to this point of the game.)

Mrs Hauser (a diehard Skins' fan) said a few nights ago that it would be cool if they used the 'missing man ' formation on the first play. Guess they heard her Thumbs Up

The announcers said the Redskins were going to leave Taylor on top of the depth chart for the rest of the season. Pretty classy IMO.

They just lost the game because they called 2 timeouts in a row. How smart is that?

They didn't lose because of that. They lost because they couldn't get a first down under 2:00 to run out the clock, and because they turned the ball over too many times, etc., etc. Lendell probably would have made that again from 51 anyway.

Whatever. 51 yard FG vs. a 36 yard FG. God I hate it when people "pray" for thugs.

There are MANY ways to honor someone-taking the field with only ten players is beyond idiotic.

I'm with Scoop. I thought it was a remarkable way to honor Sean Taylor.

IMHO, it's really not up to us to say how a team should express its grief. We're not there, so we don't really know what's appropriate. That said, if this is how the group decided to honor him, so be it, and the teammates that remain should be able to do something like this if they feel it's the best way to act. I thought it was cool that they did something.

However, I found it quite interesting that Gregg Williams knew about this beforehand, but that Gibbs did not. I wonder why that was the case.

Here is what is beyond idiotic:
quote:
But, on this of all days, a major gaffe by Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs played a key role in leaving Washington’s players disconsolate at the final whistle.

Lindell made a 51-yard attempt that didn’t count because Gibbs called timeout just as the ball was snapped. Gibbs then called another timeout as Lindell lined up a second time, but consecutive timeouts aren’t allowed in the NFL — and they result in a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when specifically called to freeze the kicker.

The penalty gave Lindell a much easier kick in the rain. His game-winner extended his streak to 17 consecutive made field goals, tying the franchise record.

I agree that Gibbs's blunder was beyond.

I dislike the Redskins immensely, but Joe Gibbs always has seemed like a good guy. How he could not have known that 2 time-outs in a row would be an unsportsmanlike penalty is indefensible.

Not only is it not up to us to judge the way a team honors its dead teammate, its beyond harsh to speak ill of the dead.

I think the 10-man defense was a dignified salute to a teammember, his family, and the fans.

Heck,I knew about it before the game. They mentioned it just towards the end of the pre-game show on Fox that the Redskins were going to take the field before the game with just 10 guys on the field on defense. Bradshaw even went so far as to say that the Bills should take a knee the first play. That seemed a bit extreme.

Seems odd though that the head coach wasn't aware of it.

WHERE exactly did I speak ill of the dead?

As I said, THERE ARE MANY WAYS to honor someone-this was idiotic. If Buffalo had scored over the empty spot on that play, how would that have 'honored' Sean Taylor?????

(I had this mental picture of Sean Taylor SCREAMING from the afterlife, "WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU????")

Let's not get so caught up emotionally that we stop THINKING.

C'mon people. I'm as sentimental as the next guy(MORE, actually), but THIS....

Um....Cheesewiz?

I wasn't referring to anyone in particular. In fact, I'd heard a local guy on the radio yesterday afternoon, baiting people who called in on Taylor's lifestyle, and some of the stuff he said was saying was despicable. He was the one who got me thinking about this.

Trust me - If I was talking about you, I would have drawn a bead, fired, and blown you off the board. I'm subtle, that way. huntin

Some people were saying it would have been classy for Buffalo to take a knee there, but others including Havel said "heck no". I still thought it was a powerful stand for Washington to take.
