More on McCarthy vs. Carolina

Green Bay - We didn't have enough space to run a chart with my story in today's paper. The story is about how coach Mike McCarthy has deftly been able to come up with creative gameplans each week based on each opponent.

That will be tested on Sunday when the Packers face the Carolina Panthers. This will mark the first time McCarthy, the offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints from 2000-04, has faced a team from the NFC South as a head coach.

Here's a breakdown of how McCarthy fared against Carolina with the Saints, and also how his offense fared specifically against current Panthers coach John Fox:

He makes a nice chart. But that was then, this is now with different personnel.

Except for when he coached the Packers against the Saints last year (admittedly in a game I'd like to forget)?

From the chart depicting head to head vs Fox, McCarthy still managed nearly 20 points a game, while the Saints defense allowed 21. I'd like to think he has a better QB and receivers at his disposal than he did in NO, and that the Pack has a better defense than what Jim Haslett fielded. Carolina also put up the offensive numbers with Jake Delhomme, not Vinny T. or Carr.

Yeah, I'd think the 04/05 Saints vs. 04/05 Carolina compared to the 07 Packers vs 07 Carolina are two different stories.

He edited it after I sent email to him pointing out that he was incorrect and still gets it wrong:

His reply to me?

I was talking about the nfc south teams he coached against with the saints.
