Sure would like to be a fly on the wall in the board room.

Packers' Executive Committee to meet
By Don Walker
Thursday, Jul 17 2008, 01:19 PM
The Green Bay Packers are governed by a board of directors, but the seven-member Executive Committee, which includes Mark Murphy, president and ceo of the team, is highly influential in terms of the direction of the franchise.

To that end, the committee has a regularly scheduled meeting on Friday at Lambeau Field. The committee doesn't advertise its agenda, but it's safe to say the Brett Favre saga will be at the top of the list.

Murphy, who is facing his first real test as the leader of the franchise, can be expected to brief committee members on how the Packers are going to handle the Favre matter. This week, Murphy was out of town attending to his father, Hugh, who died Thursday morning in Florida.

Murphy is expected to return to Florida to handle funeral arrangements for his father. It is uncertain whether Murphy will be in attendance for Saturday night's Hall of Fame Dinner at Lambeau Field. Favre is scheduled to be at the event, acting as a presenter for center Frank Winters. Winters, video director Al Treml and nose tackle Gilbert Brown will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Hopefully they don't worry about the Favre drama.

That should be worried about on the football side of operations not by the CEO/Committee.

The meeting itself is probably meaningless. If the board is going to meddle in this situation, they probably have already been meddling.

This meeting happens every year before the Shareholders meeting. From what I recall they review the Shareholder meeting agenda and corp. financial status. They will likely have a brief discussion on the Favre situation (maybe get briefed on the tampering charges) and will again show their support for the stance the organization has taken in this.

Packers Executive Committee Meeting Touches on Favre Issue

Updated: July 18, 2008 04:49 PM

It's a big weekend for the Packers with the Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, but the spotlight remains on Brett Favre.

The retired quarterback was a topic of conversation during the four-hour meeting of the Packers Executive Committee meeting Friday. We're told the Favre situation was discussed but not at length.

None of the executive committee members commented after the longer-than-usual meeting, but Action 2 News was told CEO Mark Murphy wanted to reiterate his support for general manager Ted Thompson and head coach Mike McCarthy, saying he has complete confidence in how the two are handling the situation.
