I think Frank's return may be key, more so for his help in protecting Favre than as a receiver. I see him giving Favre a comfort level that definitely wasn't there in the Dallas game and will be needed when things get turned up in the playoffs. I still can't get rid of the nightmare of a Richard Seymour/Darren Colledge matchup in the SuperBowl even if Franks is helping out.

Bubba is cool, but I doubt he'll be back. Granted he had a weak year last season, but he gave us a lot over the years.
I don't think he adds a lot right now. He was the go-to guy, but we've got lots of weapons now. If Brett finds him for an easy curl route TD in Dallas, that'd be fine with me. |

IMHO, Bubba could be important over the next few weeks, as GB will now be able to employ a 2-TE set that will not only maximize blocking, which is Bubba's main strength, but also give them options for play-calling by sending one or both of them out in pass patterns. MM is creative enough to put a package like that together, and given the weakness of Rag Doll Colledge, Bubba may be a necessary component, at least indirectly and to allow Clifton to shade more towards the inside if Bubba lines up on the left.

I agree about his blocking. Bubba is probably one of the top 4-5 blocking TEs in the NFL. I think where his presence may show up is on short yardage running plays. |

We need two te's. Bubba will really help with the blocking. He will always be threat in the red area. All he does is catch touchdowns.

Aint no stopping us now
I may be in the minority, but I think Bubba will be a Packer next year. He has a pretty good salary, but we have tons of CAP room, and he (when healthy) contributes in many ways, eg blocking, red zone threat etc. May not be HOF material, but he certainly adds to the team. Even if we take a TE high in the draft, 1st or 2nd round, Bubba has a place on the team for at least another year. Because, we can always use 3 good ones. IMHO |

I think Bubba's help with the blocking will be very important.
The only trouble with needing him on the field to help pass block is that it keeps a better playmaker on the sidelines. |

I'm not sure if he will or will not be Packer next year. What is exactly is his cap hit for next year? I actually dont mind Bubba as a blocker, but man the guy sure seems to be always dinged up over the last few years. I also think that Ted Thompson should always be looking to better this team, no matter what are salary cap situation is. If he can get a better bang for our buck and better production wise out of another player. Why not get rid of Bubba? |

He and Kleinsasser could make a nice seven-man offensive line. Chilly could go to the Wing-T then. |

Damn Bubba! Way to prove us wrong!
I tell you what, this guy is getting little respect from yesterday! He blocked his ass off yesterday! Helping Tauscher at times with Kerney and also out in the flat and opening up running lanes with Seattles Linebackers! Damn good job! |

I think Bubba is back next year. He fits McCarthy's schemes well. When they go with the Rhino package they can use Lee as the WR in that set and smash the ball at the other team (running) and they do like to throw out of that set. Honestly, who would be a better #2 in this offense?

He's scheduled to make a base salary of $3 million in 2008. That's a lot of money for a backup tight end. There's no question that Bubba has some value to this team, but not $3 million worth of value. A restructuring would make sense.

3 million is a lot for a role player, even if that role is important. Bubba and Corey Williams will be the hottest debates in terms of re-signing/re-structuring questions during X4 Poopy Diaper Season for sure, seeing as how Grant is an ERFA, so he's not going anywhere.

I understand the $$ for the role... I just think he'll be back because of his play, fit to the scheme, and familiarity. They may ask him to restructure but if they don't, they have the space to carry him next year at that amount. After 2008 is another discussion as i think his $$ goes up to around $5mm.

but if the packers have the money, why not keep him. he is obviously much better than we gave him credit for and two te's are key in this day and age. one more year |
