Are you suggesting we stand pat and go with the status quo? Was Bigby a starter 2 years ago? Did he take someone's spot? If someone can do it better then they should be replaced. Rouse may be able to replace Collins... Chillar may be able to replace Poppinga...and Lee or Williams, or Blackmon may be able to replace Harris. If the incumbents had played so well there'd be no debate. I don't see anybody asking to see Ryan Grant sat down so Brandon Jackson can get more touches. I don't see anyone saying trade Kampman because Jason Hunter or Jeremy Thompson is better. I can't wait to see and hear about Harris the TC. If his back injury truly bothered him all season then I give him a pass. You're right that no corner can shutdown great WR's all by themselves. Harris was not close in a lot of the times he was beaten. I guess we just need more heat on the QB. I hope Cullen Jenkins is finally healthy. I thought the guy looked like Reggie White in the pre-season then he got hurt and had a very poor season. |

Basically I'm resisting the idea some fans have that if a guy was a starter a year ago and gets beat out by a better player, he's going to be cut (as has been speculated here about both Collins and Poppinga). When Chillar was signed it was theorized that Poppinga immediately became trade bait -- rather than us actually have FOUR solid linebackers even though we only start three of them.

I don't think Poppinga or Collins is going to be cut nor would I suggest such moves be made. I do think cutting Harris has validity due to salary and the way he embarrassed this organization with the whole touching a stripper thing. If he's lost a step and is paid well then it's time to save some coin and spend it elsewhere. Obviously, before just outright cutting Harris it would be interesting to see what value, if any, a 33 year old declining ProBowl CB is worth these days. I'm guessing we couldn't get much for him but a 7th is better than nothing. |

Perhaps Harris was starting to feel a little heat because according to the GBPG he finally showed up for the OTAs.

I mean, if it really was just his injury that kept him from performing at a high level, I can accept that. That's part of the game. If he's completely healed and he's in good shape and can still play, there's no reason to even discuss cutting him or a demotion. If being spanked like he was is a sign that he's declining, then they need to start thinking about his future. If his back (or whatever it was) isn't 100% and he's not performing at that high level, other guys have to be given a shot to take his place. The problem is, I don't know how well Al would take to getting demoted. He may demand a trade or to be cut. You have to put the best 11 on the field...not the 11 highest paid. IF there is someone better than Harris, they should start. If there isn't, then leave Al where he is. I just don't think Al is that good...there are always guys who make the Pro Bowl who don't deserve it. I think fans tend to overvalue their players and a lot of fans think Al is Pro Bowl caliber and he's not. I don't think he would be one of the top 2 corners on probably half of the teams in the NFL. JMO though. |

Yeah. I just dialed up that strip club in Florida and asked for Al...you know the guy with the dreds that likes touching your girls...and they put him on immediately. |

Don't get him started, please. You must not have been around to see him leading the villagers to James Lofton's house with torches and pitchforks. And don't even think of bringing up Mossy Cade... |

I was most angry when Big Gilbert pushed his girlfriend over his couch. That's just unfair unless he was dating a woman that went over 3 bills. I do miss the Gilbert burger. Now, that Koren's out of Green Bay I've dropped the orange alert to yellow. |

That description doesn't narrow it down much in relation to pro athletes. |

It was Champ Bailey that was abused against GB last year in that thrilling OT winner last season. I think DD and Jennings both took turns roasting "the best cover CB in football." I thikn Harris does himself no favors by flapping his yap, especially against a guy like Plax who needs to have his fire lit (Al certainly obliged there), but cut him? Holy smokes... the guy is an excellent CB. He's going nowhere. I am glad the Packers have some guys hungry to play, because that's what they need. It was just 2 years ago that we had guys that had no business on an NFL roster playing nickel. Now the talent pool is filling with quality DBs with a desire to be good. This means that when Harris need sot be replaced, they'll have the body in place with some experience to do it. Or Woody- he's a 30+er, too. The Packers have to be prepared for the future- but we are far from that future now. Harris and Woody will be the Packers starting tandem again this year. |

Unless Williams makes a HUGE jump this offseason there is no way I can envision Harris not starting this year. While he had his share of problems last year he was still well above average whereas Williams really did nothing to distinguish himself. Bush was shaky at best, Blackmon was never really healthy, and Pat Lee is a rookie. It might be a lot to expect for anyone other than Harris to start.

Guys named Bush just can't get a break no more... I'm not a fan of his, I've made that clear. I don't see him pushing for a starting Safety job, either. But, I'd welcome the attempt at a backup role. |

I agree, heyward. I don't understand why they didn't put Woodson on Plax, if they didn't want to double team him. Woodson is clearly our best corner. To me, it felt like they didn't want to insult Harris by yanking him from covering the #1. Which, seemingly, is uncharacteristic of this administration. Then again, perhaps they favor the veteran leadership. It may also be one of those "don't change horses midstream" kind of things. I think that's why Collins kept his job all season. |
