According to the scroll on the NFL Network, it said the Packers are only 11.9 million under cap before moving Corey Williams. I thougght the number was more like 20 million under. I would assume that the NFL Network Number is correct as it is probably from teh league. Where did the money go?????

I think that # was probably right at that moment ... once they dealt Williams away they gained 6.3 or 6.4 million back. I think they stand at around 18 mil under.

According to reports from GB, that item about Favre retiring was put out in error and was retracted immediately.

From JSO:

"Once Williams is traded, the $6.363 million amount will be added to the team's salary cap, giving them roughly $24 million of room."

I'd rather have Favre.

The original question is a good one, though. Where did all that cap space go? Hookers and 8-balls? I'm a shareholder... where's mine?

Maybe they're subtracting the rookie allocation already.

So I'm guessing the JsOnline meant to say "added to the team's salary cap space"

Yes. The other thing of note (unless GB trades up) by picking in the lower rounds this year it also means it will cost the team less to sign their draft picks. In the draft that featured AJ Hawk, GB picked high in each round and of course Hawk cost GB the most to sign.

Rumors are however that Kampman and Pickett will get pay raises to compensate them for their recent solid performances (which I agree they deserve).

Have to agree with Caveman. Some locations are going to show a value already taking out approx. 5-6 mil for rookie contracts and some will not. Confusing isnt it??

So, given the team's winning record and potentially shrinking cap, TT's double-secret, evil losing/unused cap space cash bonus is shrinking by the day. I guess he really is an idiot. I guess I need to become a whiny, ignorant self-centered hater after all.

One thing to keep in mind on cap space is the actual number of players signed

The dollars are only half of the equation, and a team like Tampa with $44 million sounds great until you realize they don't have a full roster

GB has all their starters signed and still has $20 million to spend, that is more important than the actual cap space/team
