NFL fines 5 Falcons for Vick tributes

NEW YORK (AP) -- Roddy White and four other Atlanta Falcons were fined by the NFL for violating uniform regulations with tributes to Michael Vick during last week's Monday night game.

Vick, Atlanta's suspended Pro Bowl quarterback, was sentenced to 23 months in prison on federal dogfighting charges the morning of Dec. 10. The Falcons played at home against New Orleans that night.

After scoring a touchdown, White displayed a "Free Mike Vick" T-shirt under his jersey.

He, along with tight end Alge Crumpler and cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Chris Houston, were fined $10,000 each. Crumpler, Hall and Houston all wore black eye strips with written tributes to Vick, which the league called "displaying an unauthorized personal message."

Wide receiver Joe Horn was fined $7,500 for pulling up White's jersey to show the black T-shirt with handwritten white lettering. The fines were confirmed Tuesday by NFL spokesman Randall Liu.

You would think he was sentenced to 23 years the way some people are acting.

Three turds in a bowl there, and just another indicator of just how utterly dysfunctional that franchise is these days. In the words of one immortal x4 poster, "Pathetic. No societal reality-driven tallant whatsoever."

Why would Joe Horn care? Up until this past offseason, he was a member of a rival NFC South team.

IMHO, he sees it as an opportunity for some street cred, and he was on more than once talking about how he and Ookie were friends. Sad.

A picture like this may be enough to make Petrino may change his mind and come back to coach these 'professionals'

sarcasm

Maybe he didn't have guts or clout to control these 'professionals' but I don't blame him for getting out. This is a dysfunctional franchise, and it would take more that a couple years to clean house and begin recovery.

Reminds me of back in high-school when we wore black armbands cuz a buddy got suspended for drinking. We sure showed em!

Would've loved to see a coach with ball$ cut all three of these a-holes the next day. It's not as if any of these clowns are indispensable - when you're 3-11, is anyone necessarily indispensable?

No, but at 4-12 there are a few un-pathetic players. Big Grin

Man, that team needs to be taken apart with a crowbar and rebuilt into a real football team, not an overpaid Vick posse. And apparently, Petrino didn't have the cojones to face that kind of job.

BTW....it should be 23 years. thwack

Why didn't the t-shirts say, "We like people who electrocute and drown dogs! How 'bout you?"?

Who was the coach a few years back out in KC who, after the defense suffered a meltdown against the Raiders (I think) resulting in a bunch of unsportsmanlike penalities cut Wayne Simmons the next day?

Something like that certainly gets the attention of the marginal players in a heartbeat. Roddy White. Give me a break. He is a nobody, never has been, never will be...much along the lines of turd ferg.

I don't know how these coaches take it. I was watching a game the other day, can't remember which one, anyway a DB makes a great play knocking a pass away, then taunts the WR laying on the ground, draws a personal foul and the other team gets a 1st down. If I'm the coach I kick the guy right in the ass in front of 65,000 people in the stands and the whole TV viewing public.

If those guys were as concerned about their (and their team's) performance as they are about 'making a statement', they would probably be a much better team.

Why do I get the feeling those losers would do the same thing if Vick had been convicted of rape or murder instead of his convicted crime, the majority of the citizens of Atlanta feel the same way as those players do also, all for a loser like Vick.

I believe that was Marty Shoot-n-booter, and that was after the Chefs completely melted down against the Raiders, IIRC. Derrick Thomas was one of the guys who got multiple personal fouls during one drive, and Simmons got in on it as well. To me, that wasn't nearly as egregious as pulling out a shirt in support of this scumbag.

Agreed.

My point was that Marty did not play around. The next day Simmons was unemployed.

Petrinio should have benched White right then and there. Like I said statements like that by the HC or GM would certainly get the attention of the "marginal" players on a team.
