Well, I think your guess is wrong.

Favre retired, to the surprise of most (including, I suspect, TT and MM).

Since that time everything they've done is entirely appropriate for a team whose veteran quarterback just retired. You talk as if everything is a statement. It's a statement that our veteran quarterback retired and we have one quarterback on the roster and he's never started an NFL game, so it makes sense to use a decent pick on another one. (And not to quibble, but obviously Flynn wasn't that "highly thought of" since he was barely even drafted. We drafted Ingle Martin two rounds earlier than Flynn.)

I don't buy this idea that the Packers should have or could have done anything to get Favre to return. Just because Favre's agent apparently thought so doesn't make it true. As for the date of the retirement ceremony, Favre had a say in that. I seriously doubt they told him "Week 1 or nothing, buddy."

Your memory is off on when they put him on the retired list. Favre talked about maybe coming back if they called on April 8th. They put him on the retired list almost three weeks later -- the day before the NFL draft, which made sense since they'd be adding a lot of rookies, drafted and undrafted, and needed the roster spot. So your theory about them making some kind of statement with that move three weeks later is a little implausible.

I applaud them for their moves of late, too. I mean, yeah, acting as if a guy who has retired actually has retired makes a lot of sense.

Was it the day after his Letterman appearance that they moved him to the retired list? That might have been what I was thinking. He said on Letterman that "something was bound to happen" once training camp came around .. the next day .. retired list. Is that right?

Because Favre would think he'd have a better chance of getting another Super Bowl ring with a team coming off a 1-15 season in the AFC than one coming off a 14-4 season in which they hosted the NFC's conference championship game?

Because Parcells thinks a 39-year-old quarterback is going to put the 1-15 Dolphins over the hump in terms of Super Bowl contention?

Just doesn't make any sense.

One thing about those always bad teams - very little of what they do makes much sense.

I don't know the date, but I saw the show, and they were goofing around. Letterman asking if he missed it or something, Favre saying, sure, when training camp rolls around, I might have a feeling.

He was put on the retired list the day before the draft. It made sense.

The Dolphins haven't always been bad, and Parcells has a pretty good track of record of building winners, not doing stupid things.

I'll give you that. But Parcell's has never been a GM before. Before he had control of the coaching as well. He doesn't have that now. So we'll just have to see where these uncharted waters take us.

The Dolphins haven't been an elite team since the 70's when Don Shula was the coach. Otherwise, they have been competitive until recently. So I know about their history. But, until Parcell's does turn them around, the Dolphins are who they are.

Parcells was a GM with the Jets. Even before he was the GM he called all the shots. He had control of personnel moves in Dallas, too. He doesn't take jobs any more unless he's in control. Whatever, it's a moot point, Favre's not going to play for another team, if he were it wouldn't be for the Dolphins, nor would they be the ones to call the Packers about him.

I agree .. he's not coming back .. at least I hope not. He had a great run, and went out with a great final season. It's best to see him go out with something in the tank as opposed to having to leave because he couldn't play any longer, or was injured, or something.

Favre loves the game, he just doesn't love the necessary preparation that goes into playing the game. He knows that if he came back, he'd have to do that preparation.

For the past few years of his career, everyone wanted to speculate that Favre was done. Now that he is done, everyone wants to speculate he'll return. He's done, folks.

Favre has not publicly endorsed a political candidate yet = sure sign he is a communist

Arlen Specter is really picking up for Joe McCarthy rooting out all the communists in the NFL. The "Red"skins, really? The "Patriots"? We all know that's pinko code. It's just a matter of time before Specter pins down Marxist pimp in that hotbed of communism, Mississippi.

Favre has not been seen between the hours of 8 am and 8 pm in my back yard = sure sign he is a vampire

But it doesn't disprove that he's a mole man.

connect the dots people!

It would take Eric Idle severing all of Brett's limbs to end the speculation.

Er, that would render it a draw.

His career is not dead yet. In fact, it's getting better.
