* McCarthy said center Scott Wells is day-to-day with his trunk injury. He praised rookie Josh Sitton and said Sitton would compete for a starting spot at right guard as training camp progresses. UPDATE:Here's the exact quote from McCarthy when asked how Sitton is playing with the first unit. "Good. Josh has taken full advantage of his opportunity. That's why we're going to give him an opportunity to compete and win the right guard position, and really kind of take Daryn (Colledge) and Allen (Barbre) and Jason (Spitz) and really kind of work a three- or four-man rotation in the left guard and center position." That sure makes it sounds like Sitton -- not Spitz -- is the man at right guard until further notice. |

If Wells hadn't signed the $15 million extension, I bet Spitz would already be the starting center and Sitton would be the right guard. But the Packers paid Wells a lot of money, so I'm not sure the coaches would be willing to sit him just yet. Nothing against Wells, but Spitz has the size to match up better with the bigger NTs.

That's because Spitz is at center until Wells gets back, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Spitz move over and win the left guard position when Wells is healthy if Sitton can keep it up.

Great. Whatever gets stoolpot Colledge out of the lineup, that's fine by me. I really hope I don't have to see an interior OL go flying backwards on the screen every other play for another year.

Not that it matters at all but he looked a lot bigger when I saw him at training camp. He looked bigger than any of the guys out there even "road grader" Barbre. |

Well, I guess it'll be easier to spot him sucking then.

Is Barbre fading? Haven't heard anything about him stepping up and pushing for the LG job. I had really high hopes for him this year after all the talk about he was an animal in the weight room. Rodgers is really going to need a solid line in front of him.
The quote seems like MM is more disappointed with Colledge and Barbre than he is happy with Sitton. |

Barbre was on the MM show this week and said he and Colledge are splitting reps 50-50.

Ammo you've got to be kidding, we all know the Favre, the GM, made the pick. |

I think an interior line of Barbre, Spitz, Sitton might not be that bad.
Spitz is bigger than Wells and could probably hold up better against the big DTs we face. Barbre is strong enough, big enough, and athletic enough to get the job done so in theory he should be alright. Same for Sitton. |

i'm sorry, but how do you know this, given than barbre and stitton have never played a game for the packers? |

Oh I don't know that, I'm just speculating. I said Barbre and Sitton are big enough, strong enough, and athletic enough to get the job done but that's not a guarantee they will. I think the question with Barbre (don't know about Sitton) is intelligence. |

You have to wonder if Colledge has any freakin pride in him. They talk all the time about trying to replace the guy and you never hear any fire from him. He's seems like a guy that's just happy to be in the NFL and collecting a check. It doesn't seem like he's developed a whole heck of a lot or that he appears to be working towards that goal. Some of his whiffs last year were maddening. Just seemed like his head wasn't in the game at times.

While Wells isn't the biggest guy, he does a lot of important things from the center position, like make the line calls and protections. He's a darned good player. Plus, it's pretty early to annoint Sitton anything. Wells is hurt so he's getting a chance to play with teh first string. Good for him but come on, they haven't even played a pre-season game yet, let alone a meaningful one. |

I think they're trying out Sitton at center because he's got the smarts as well as the size. Spitz has the attitude, plus the build (he lifted in high school, I think). Coston's had leg problems, and we know how centers (Flanny) with leg problems play. If he stays healthy, he'll be a monster at guard.

Where do you get this from? Colledge came in bigger and stronger this year, is splitting reps with Barbre in competition which was laid out before camp even started, and he's Clifton's backup. |

Spitz is the strongest guy on the line. We already know the coaches like him at center and he did a good job filling in for Wells last year. I liked what I heard about Sitton from the start. I really think this guy has the drive to be a starter this year. The right side of the line looks like it's set for a while. Now they just need to find some solid depth at LT. I have no faith in Colledge as a LT. |

I'd have no faith in Colledge if I asked him to fold the athletic socks after practice.

JJSD, well said.
At this point I'd stick a blue rotating light on Colledge to get rid of him. |

I wished the guy would change his name to maybe Standin instead of Sitton.

“He’s the proper weight but still you wish he’d lose a few inches around the middle,” strength coach Rock Gullickson said. “It can go. It will take a lot of management on his part to get that under control.”
I hear that practicing in the, Hutch, during the cold times is a good way to shed some weight |
