ESPN signs Schefter

This news is about 2-3 weeks old but when NFLN started having Jason LaCanfora instead of Schefter, I decided to find out what happened to Adam.

I guess ESPN was offering a lot more money than NFLN.

I liked Schefter a lot on NFL Network, but they made him as much as he made them. I remember when he was just a mediocre beat writer for the Broncos at the Denver Post whose national insight was pretty weak. He landed about the best job an NFL guy could hope for and it's a shame for both sides they couldn't keep it going.

I think that sucks! Hopefully, his reporting, style and his abilitly to be pretty dead on with his reports doesn't change now since he will be moving to Espn.

Ialways think of him first as the guy from footballinjuries.com that made the rounds on fantasy shows discussing, obviously enough, player injuries.

The only times I hated shefter was during the draft when right before the pick would be announced NFL Network would go to him and he would say who it was going to be. He was always right and it ruined the suspense! Smiler

They call Schefter "Scoop" around here (Denver) because of his national insight and ability to produce stories before others that were actually true. Good for him.

Something tells me that working for the league made getting stories a heck of a lot easier. Let's see how things work out for Schefter at ESPN. Other than news about TOG, the stooges on that network seem a lot better at confirming breaking stories than actually reporting them.

I lived there for a long time and don't remember him breaking many national stories before getting the NFL Network job. He was just a typical homer Broncos beat writer who reported stuff in his NFL column that I'd already read somewhere else. Anyway, good for him, but I think he's left the best NFL job he could have had for one where he'll be just another reporter.

Thought he was an arrogant jerk when I first encountered him on NFLN but grew to respect his sources and opinions. Sucks he went to the evil ntwk as I watch 90% NFLN, 10% ESPN during season.

My favorite Schefter moment was when he correctly called that the Raiders were going to fire Art Shell as head coach...and Al Davis/Raiders came out with a statement blasting Schefter and calling him a rumor monger. Days later of course, the Raiders did indeed fire Art Shell

No suprise really, we all know what the Raiders are going to do before the Raiders do.

It would be sweet, if the NFLN could pull Glazer away from Fox. I would say he's the only one who rivals Schefter with "inside stories". But I think Glazer is better, he actually got his hands on the tape from CheaterGate.

Did they maybe call him "Scoop" because he wore a fedora and had a little hand written card that said "Scoop" stuck in the band?

Funny, but no. It's because he was good at breaking news before others did both locally and occasionally, on the national level. He's right up there with Jay Glazer in my opinion. Too bad he's going to mar his good image by reporting with the bafoons at ESPN.
