Concordia lands Rams
Team will hold camp in Mequon By DON WALKER dwalker@journalsentinel.com Posted: May 13, 2008 The St. Louis Rams have selected Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon as their new summer-camp training home. An official announcement is expected soon. The decision means that three professional football teams will stage their summer camps in Wisconsin. Besides the Green Bay Packers, the Kansas City Chiefs spend their summers at UW-River Falls. A Concordia spokesman declined to comment Tuesday. The Rams' presence is expected to provide an economic opportunity both for the university and the local business community. There was no immediate word on how much access to the practices fans will have. Some local business people greeted the Rams' training news with enthusiasm Tuesday afternoon. "It probably will help quite a bit because it probably would bring a lot of activity to the area," said Dan DeMarsh, co-owner of the Highland House restaurant in Mequon. In addition to Concordia, the Rams had considered UW-Oshkosh, UW-Whitewater, Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill., and the Bishop O'Connor Center near Madison. Concordia emerged as the front-runner largely because of the abundance of practice facilities on the Concordia campus and a new residence hall to house players, staff and coaches. The Rams also have a scrimmage scheduled this summer in Tennessee against the Titans and wanted access to a major airport. More... http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=750468 That's 3 NFL teams now. Maybe it's the beer? |

La Crosse and UW-L still want to host a team. They looked into the Rams coming but the area that the Saints used to use for training is under a renovation. They are redoing the football stadium and track - partially to keep the Wisconsin state Track & Field meet here. UW-L is playing their home games 30 minutes north at Winona State this season.
The Rams looked into UW-L and may come here in the future. Good place for training camp, in my opinion. Weather not too bad and they have a new dorm right next to the facilities. |

Nothing better than Poole bringing his golf clubs and beating up a guy from LaCrosse when the Saints were here.

Concordia is very close to Milwaukee, yet it is also a bit isolated as well. The Rams made a good choice.

Always loved watching Saints camp updates from ESPN when they were in LaX, because you could see my grade school (Emerson) in the background.
Get a team back in LaCrosse and another back in Platteville, and the Cheese League will be alive and well once again. |

Glad to hear you've healed. I'm sure plenty of Mequon people are thrilled....and many not. |

When I was a kid I used to hitch-hike out to Waukeshe from Wauwatosa and watch the CHICAGO Cardinals practice at Carroll College. They had a great backfield then: Pat Harder, Charlie Trippi, Elmer Angsman and Paul Christman. I'd sit right out on the practice field and chat with the players, get them water and sometimes get yelled at by some muckie muck. Great fun!

I'm glad to see a WI community get a 'shot-in-the-arm' by having the Rams hold their TC there. A stark contrast to what we often see on the news nowadays.

They'll have just as many sold out games as they did in L.A. |

Literally two miles from where I grew up (my parents still live there). My buddies and I used to play pickup football games on the football field over there during the winter. Somewhat secluded location, but close enough to the city where their players can cause trouble.

Am I the only proud Concordia alumni on the board? Wise choice. I'm sure my tuition money helped build that field since they redid it shortly after I left. Kudos to Concordia for landing 'em.

I'm not, but I have family that is. That school has come a long ways in the 15 years I've been familiar with it. |

It is not just a boost for the Milwaukee area but for Sheboygan just 30 minutes north of Mequeon. They had 3 Championship caliber golf courses up there that I am sure Herb Kohler will welcome the players to with open arms. He will ensure they have tee-teams. Alot of those guys will also end up doing some charter fishing on Lake Michigan and that will bring in more money. Good to see. |

I went there from '86 to '89. I played women's basketball for two years and ended my stint the year before the nice fieldhouse opened. Go Falcons/Lady Falcons! What years were you there, nato? |
