On the Dan Patrick show this morning, he was discussing coach of the year with Rich Eisen. Rich claims you have to give it to BB for his undefeated season. I guess they are giving him the last two games. Dan's point was that 1) he cheated, and 2) MM did much more with less for GB.
NE has 8 players going to the Pro Bowl, the Packers, 4. NE has 2 candidates for MVP, Packers, 1. The last time a team went undefeated, Don Shula did not win COY. Dan Devine won after he took the packers from 4 and 8 in 71 to the playoffs in 72. So MM for COY, Brett for MVP and they can all celebrate those honors sipping champagne, holding the Lombardi Trophy! |

Brady's obviously going to win MVP, only question is whether it's unanimous or not. Which is fine. Favre's got 3, he doesn't need any more. The mere fact he's in the conversation at 38 is pretty impressive.
Coach of the year, I'd come up with a handful of choices... McCarthy Jack Del Rio Dick Jauron - people will be like huh?, but with the injuries that team had, the fact that they've been so competitive all year, except against NE, is pretty impressive. I was going to say Romeo Crennel, but then again, he picked Charlie Frye as his week 1 starter at QB. I think McCarthy has a very good shot, though. |

Yeah it only took him 8 weeks to decide to feature Adrian Peterson. I'd argue he's done less with more. The guy is an idiot. |

I've heard Wade Phillips name tossed around, but it'll probably come down to BB or MM.
Based on expectations, I don't see how you can't go with MM. Most of the experts were saying 8-8 would be a good year before the season started. |

It's a complete scam if MM doesn't win it.

It should be McCarthy but I would think Gruden should get some votes.

On top of the fact he's apparently got a roster loaded with Pro Bowl talant. |

One publication had the Packers at 3-13, the worst team in the NFL. Most publications claimed the Packers were mediocre at best. I think MM is easily COY and TT is ExecOY. This team has exceeded all expectations. Savor this season, fellow Packer fans!

If you look at consistency and level of play from day 1 of the regular season it would be BB & MM for sure. The media loves to celebrate mediocrity when it comes to this award. Look how good they did they went from being a team that was supposed to do nothing and the didn't do horrible. I think that MM did so well and Brett was playing so well out of the gate that they might think that is it more due the Brett's play than MMs coaching even though that is complete crap since it was obviously both. I am betting that MM does not care, he has his eye on the prize and only wants to win the big one.

The only reason I don't see it being Belichick -- aside from the cheating thing, and the fact that people hate him -- is that the award typically goes to the coach of a team from whom less is expected of. Lindy Infante, when he won. Cowher his first year with the Steelers (not either of their Super Bowl years). Holmgren also didn't get it in either of Green Bay's Super Bowl years. It's seldom an award for the team that plays the best all year long. The Patriots were Super Bowl favorites before the season started. They were expected to win 13 or 14 games. (Which is how much they'd have won if the Eagles and Ravens hadn't choked late leads.)
McCarthy definitely will get votes for the team exceeding expectations and people will say he reined Favre in and all that. Jack Del Rio cut his starting quarterback a week before the season, and the Jags are 10-4. Crennel will get some votes. I think Jauron probably should, given the way their season began. I think people will look at Gruden and see their run as largely the product of a bad division. |

Jauron
Del Rio McCarthy Rate as you like. Any of the three I can agree with. |

My rankings would be:
1. McCarthy 2. Del Rio 3. Crennel 4. Gruden 5. Billy B. While New England may go undefeated, it is not like they didn't have any talent at the end of last season. Heck, they played in the AFC Championship game and lost to the eventual Super Bowl champions. The top four guys on my list have done a lot more than some cheating, self-absorbed, "genius" whose owner went out and spent major cash on free agent acquisitions and trades that included Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Donte Stallworth, and Adalius Thomas. |

Brady should be offensive player of the year not MVP. MVP should go to the player that did more to get his team where they were. Does anyone honestly believe Brady wins 12 games with this team?

I don't think it's a stretch to think that Brady could have the Packers at 12-2 .. he's a great qb. |

Yes, Brady is a good QB, but in all fairness throwing jumpballs to Moss doesn't mean much in terms of ability. If that was the case Cunningham and FumblePepper would be HOF candidates.

Moss has 19 TD catches... only a small portion are jump balls. Brady is a very good QB and has benefited this year from outstanding OLine play, very good WR / TE play, playing the Bills-Jets-Dolphins for 6 games, and smart play overall from the team.
If McCarthy does not get the COY honor he is definitely in the top 3. DelRio has also done an outstanding job yet I'd put McCarthy ahead of him. |

I agree. Look back at the Packers two losses. Favre's stupid pass right to Urlacher inside the Packers 10 yard line could very well have decided that game. In the Cowboys game, Rodgers got the Packers to within 3 points of the Cowboys after Favre left the game with the Packers is bad shape. Brady is very sound in his decision making and is the coolest QB ever under pressure. Brady could have won both those games. Maybe Brady doesn't make the same reads as Favre and we lose the Denver game, but I think Brady could have this Packer team at 12-2. |

3 of the past 4 weeks Brady has been pressured and not looked very cool. |

What I meant by cool under pressure is that when the game is on the line, in late game drives, Brady rarely makes the dumb throws that seal the fate of his team. He seems to stay more under control than guys like Favre or Steve Young or even Manning.
