Depends where you go and what you gamble. As you can see, there are lots of people here who like to spend time downtown for any number of reasons. Me, I really disliked downtown and don't want to spend time at blackjack tables with such low minumums that some/most of the people don't know how to play. Nothing worse that watching some idiot hit a hand (or stay on a hand) they shouldn't and watching the cards play out to save the dealer. Vegas is pretty varied -- there are casinos for the young and old, casinos for people who want kids around and those who don't, casinos for people gambling with more money and casinos with low miniums. It all depends on what you like -- the casino is there for you you just need to talk to someone familiar with the area. I spent a long weekend at Mandalay a few weeks ago and did very well playing -- and they took care of me very well, so I can't complain. One of the few times I walked away (or more appropriately, ran out of time) up, and it was a blast. |

I had to do a little Christmas shopping, and picked this up. I just started the book, maybe am a chapter or two into it. After reading about this super cool swauve David deMonmollin, I wanted to know who he was. I knew I remember hearing his name before, but couldn't think of where. Then I read it is a guy from GVR and is featured on the show "American Casino". I was really hoping it wasn't the guy who I thought it was. It couldn't be. That guy is a complete tool. Just a dork, about as smooth as exlax. But sure enough, it was him. So, I have a little bit of a hard time buying some of his stories. BUT, I won't let it ruin the overall value of the book. I'm sure he has some inside tips, but I just can't buy the fact that this guy is a player. |

That's interesting. Just reading the book he seems to have a lot of good tips. So he's a total dark, huh? Like a meathead? Or just a loser with no game? Never would have guessed reading the book.
What do you think so far? |

I just bought one a minute ago after doing a price search. It is 10.10 total price at this ebay site. The sell has a large transaction record so I see no problem. BEST PRICE FOR THE BOOK |

Just a dork. I mean, DORK. If you get a chance watch "American Casino" on the Travel Channel at 7 PM (central) on Wednesday night. So far the book is pretty good. I am enjoying it, but I had to get past the author. Thanks for the tip. |

Just finished the book (literally).
A very good recommendation. A lot of great tips in it. I had a hard time thinking about the author as some sort of slick guy, but when he got to the reviews, I let it go. Will work as a good reference guide to have with you to glance at to make a decision to eat, etc. I'm starting to get pretty excited about my trip now. I've never been out to Vegas for the SuperBowl, and I'm pumped. I think I asked earlier, but I will ask again. Has anyone been out to Vegas for the SuperBowl before? |

Alright, now I fell like a bit of an ass. I emailed David with a couple of questions. He responded with more than enough details, and went on to invite me out to Green Valley Ranch for lunch and cocktails. |

I told him I couldn't set up anything this far in advance, because we don't have any timelines. We just gamble, roaming from casino to casino. I told him the day we were planning on heading out to GVR, and he said to just pick up a house phone and ask for him. He also invited us to a Superbowl party, but we will probably go to the one at the Flamingo. I don't know whether I will call him or not. If I really like the place, and think I might stay there sometime, I will. But it is like 20 minutes from the strip. Who knows. Has anyone ever stayed at Treasure Island (TI)? I think when I go out in May, I am going to give it a chance. Looks like a young crowd and a lot of fun. Anyone? |

Leaving tonight.
When you guys are all working hard tomorrow morning, take a minute to think of me sucking down a bloody mary at the craps table. |

I will never go out for Super Bowl weekend again. 95% hotel capacity for the city, and I think only about 2% knew how to gamble. Poker player's dream, I'm sure.
Anyway. Took a night flight. Jumped off the plane and headed for baggage claim, when I see a group of cheerleaders This really got me in the Vegas mood. Immediately hit the craps table and ordered a drink. 2 days in and I really dug a hole for myself. Decided to slow down a bit and make little hits. My dad had an hour roll which brought me back to life. Unreal. I've never seen so few chips in front of the box man at a craps table. Everyone was having a blast making money at the table, drinking, hollering, high fives, just a good time. By the time he sevened out, I had both rails filled with chips and I would say only about 15 of them were red. By the time the roll was over I realized I probably had about 7-8 Rum n Cokes. It was late and I was buzzed, so I figured I better go to the cage and cash in. Just as I was turning away from the window I hear a scream and see a little Asian woman literally fly out of her chair. Then I see him. A very inebriated, very little midget, with a beer in his hand driving one of those little rascal scooters. Heading right for me. At the last second I was able to do a half assed side step jump, but it was too late. He grazed my leg and crashed into the cage. As I did my little sissy jump thing, I swung my arm around and hit him in the head with my rum and coke. I don't know if it was my swing, or the jolt of the collision, but the little guy was ejected off of the scooter and got tangled up in the velvet rope dividers in front of the cage. Immediately the tiny reckless driver jumped to his feet (still tangled in the rope) and starting poking me in the chest telling me he was gonna kick my ass. It seemed as if the whole casino stopped and was watching. Stunned. Silence. I just bursted out laughing. So did the rest of the casino (except for the aforementioned Asian lady who was cursing out the guy). It had to be a scene, man. You got a drunk midget driving a scooter, losing control and hitting a chair at a blackjack table causing a little Asian woman flying, rebounding and almost taking out me, hitting the cage and getting ejected. I'm about 6'2" and 220#. This guy maybe came up to my belly button. I couldn't help but laugh. It had to be an unbelievable scene. Anyways, security showed up and had to literally pick him up and drag him away. (Took 2 guys, tenacious little bastard). Little Asian starts threatening a lawsuit on the casino, etc. BS. They asked (with a smirk) if I needed medical attention, but I declined. I did ask for a copy of the security tape, but they told me they couldn't do it. That sucked. Bet the Steelers -4, and the first half under of 23.5. Also bet DJax to score first at 8-1. I was pretty pissed at the phantom PI call. Flight home, Chad Clifton was on the plane. I walked by him and mentioned to my dad that he didn't seem very big. Joked on the flight that I was going to slap him on the head and call him "turnstyle". When we landed in Milwaukee, I walked by him and gave a knowing nod (hopefully he didn't think I was gay), and he said Hi. Glad I didn't call him turnstyle. The dude is huge. About 6-5 and 330. I felt like the aforementioned midget next to him. Good trip. Will be heading back out in May with the wife. Will probably try out TI. |

Thats news to me, I play cards there all the time.
What kind of stories? On the way back from Vegas, I got behind this girl doing 100 MPH. So I follow her about a mile back, doing 100 MPH. That way if theres a cop around, he will nail her before me. We were doing that for 2 hours, (its a 6 hour trip). Sure enough she got nailed. So I slowed to the 65mph speed limit, until some other stooge comes along doing 85, so I did the same with him. Works great I have never gotten caught. Its the Nevada people who go the fastest. |

I am seriously considering it. My company is expanding an Vegas is one place it will be doing it. Also Wisconsin. The 2 numbers is minimum. I do that until my arm gets warmed up. Then I roll for a while, then go to the next casion. That way the casino doesnt get too mad at you. I went to Cesears and rolled for about 20 minutes. I dont like the casino, but sure won a lot of money. Cesears card room sucks. I have found not all craps tables roll the same. I have written my own little book about my observations at different casinos. Some craps tables I would warn people (Fitzgeralds, Circus Circus) not to play. Get a lot of craps and sevens. Something is not right with those tables. Binions treat you like crap on their craps tables, heard a lot of people complaining about them. Their cardroom sucks too. Go to the Wynn for playing cards, craps, lots of players and lots of money. Tables fill fast. Good drink service. Bellagio card room is good. Mostly I go to gamble. Entertainment and eating are a distraction. I go twice a month now. Need a week to recuperate. When I was at Circus Circus, there a was girl there well endowed and not much was hidden, who everyone said was an actress. She was in her 30's, I didnt recognize her. The casino treated her like a queen. She said she was going to be in a couple of upcoming movies, something about Hawaii, she said. I didnt care like I said, I go to gamble, She kept talking and touching me, while I was playing craps, which annoyed me greatly. |

I went this year. Super crowded. Roomrates maxed out. All tables games filled I couldnt squeeze in any where. So thats when I drove home 100 mph, see previous thread. I missed the first 1/2 hour of the Super Bowl. I would say only go to Vegas to make your bets, for the Super Bowl. Watch it at home. |

Going back out the first weekend in January.
As mentioned before, will never go out during the Superbowl again. That sucked. I'm getting a little worried because Harrah's sold out to some firm that also got a hold of Barbary Coast and the land behind the casino. I'm guessing in 3-5 years they are going to blow the Harrah's, Flamingo and BC to build another crappy 'mega-resort'. I sure hope not, but everything is in place to happen. Anyone been out lately? |

Leaving tomorrow morning.
Starting to get a little excited. Looking forward to an early morning Bloody Mary and some craps. Going to bet a little football. I really like KC +7. Might even take them on the money line, but not sure yet. That is my only "For Sure" bet (meaning I'm going to MAKE the bet, not WIN the bet). Another one I'm looking at strongly is the over on the Jets/Pats (37.5). 8.5 also seems like a lot for the Pats to be laying. Wish me luck. |

Yeah, I'm guessing I never experience that again. Weekend after NYE, I'm guessing it is going to be quiet. Last time we went during this week, this was going on. That was fun. I was a bit disappointed that it is a week later this year. |

Great trip.
No midgets or any other excitement, just really good craps tables. I held the dice for about 40 minutes at New York New York. I was feeling all great and then my dad held them for 55 minutes at Harrah's. He got an ovation after that roll (except from the guy playing the don't that dropped about $10,000). |

I went to LV last weekend.
I am going to Vegas every chance I can now. Any info you can tell me is great, not all casinos are equal and I havent been to all of them. I went to Hooters and stayed overnight. The girls are good looking, in skimpy outfits. The Craps table is 14 feet long versus the usual 12 feet. DONT play there, couldnt get anything going. Its a small casino and not much to do there, unless you like to swim. Their theme is beach and swimming. I like staying at the Stratasphere. The rooms are good and also cheap. I can win on their craps tables. I usually play long enough to win $100. Then go eat at their buffet, they have a big buffet with a vary wide selection. The food was very good. I tried to get in the Wynn buffet, but there is always a line. By the way I got the LV newspaper. They said MJ, Michael Jackson was back in Vegas trying to get his career going again. |
