Yeah, Mariotti is a real scream
A couple of things on Jay: Mariotti once held out on his contract and hid himself in his bunker out in Vernon Hills, Il. until a new deal was inked by the Chicago Sun Times. Mariotti does not like to be called names. He has not entered the White Sox ballpark in over two years because a certain tiny little manager called him an offensive name. IOW, Jay has no room to talk or toss names around, zero. I realize the posted article is written by Greg couch, but he is not only Mariotti-lite, the original whinebacker statement came from Jay and his rantings on Urlacher and this situation. |

The article is a joke. It refers to Urlacher as "superstar."

If not a 'superstar', exactly what is Urlacher? Average? Overrated? Let's hear it.

123 tackles 5 sacks 5 picks 12 PD with an injury, yeah, he's done. I just hope the Bears opponents see it the same way you do.

If you're going to call Urlacher a superstar then that puts him right up there with Favre, Reggie White, Joe Montana.... So... |

By today's NFL standards he is a Star. Until we win the SB he will never be a Superstar. |

I never said he was a 'superstar'. I was only interested in reading what exactly were the perceptions of rival fans. As far as I'm concerned, Urlacher hasn't reached Butkus' or Singletary's status as of yet, but his career isn't over. |

Urlacher's as good as the players around him.
When they're good, so is he. When they suck, so does he. |

Please remember that it is was widely believed the Packers wanted to pick Urlacher in the Draft. But supposedly the Bears caught wind of it and made a trade to move ahead the Pack and select Urlacher. If I recall correctly, the Packers ended up with Bubba that year.
I hear Urlacher does not have the greatest personality either. And when I watch him play he does not seem to "command" a big leadership role on the defense. He makes big plays. But most of the time he seems like an enigma out there. Plus I have seen him badly mess up some plays too. |

I thought sacks didn't matter? Pudwacker went about 2 years w/o one. His man to man coverage skills suck in the open field. Spurtwhacker got ate up in the Super Bowl against the Colts by Addai and Rhodes.

Who said sacks don't matter? His coverage skills are excellent. In fact, he has been pointed out by several media members as the prototypical MLB in the Cover 2. The entire Bears D got eaten up by the Colts backs. BTW those are quite clever plays on Urlacher's name As for the other comments: All players need help around them. All players blow plays, see AJ Hawk getting faked out of his shoes by McNabb. |

Opinions are great, but is there any factual basis in this opinion? Who exactly is all this help you speak about? Holdman and Colvin departed to have little or no impact on the teams they played for and Urlacher still produced. Washington and Traylor left and Urlacher was still playing well. Tommie Harris has been hurt for almost two seasons. There has been a revolving door at the other DT position. The DEs in Brown and Ogum are solid, but not spectacular. Mike Brown is never healthy. So is it Briggs holding up Urlacher for the last four years? |

He helps I'm wondering if Urlacher will carry on with his threat to "retire" if they don't re-do his deal? I like this new graemlin. ----->> Bear fans on this whole deal = How much is Urlacher scheduled to make this year? My guess is about $5 Million. Thanks. Boris (fka FRZ) |

From what I've read in direct quotes from Urlacher, the entire retirement talk is a fabrication of the media. He denies ever saying it.
Everyone thought Briggs would be gone as well, how'd that turn out? |

Hey,they did sweep us. The Bears won their Superbowl, and they didn't even have to make the playoffs. |

I agree. If we go 13-3 every year but get swept by the Bears, I can live with that. |

Opinions are great, but is there any factual basis in this opinion? I've watched Urlacher play for several years. You define "well" a little differently than I do. Off topic, maybe you can shed some light on my curiosity about why fans of one team come to a board populated by fans of a rival just to talk s**t. Back when I used to do it, my excuses were excessive alcohol consumption, clinical depression, and zero self-esteem, but then I got better and stopped. What's your story? |

Not sure what "s**t" you're refering to, but the only "s**t" I've seen on this thread so far is being espoused by Packer fans. I guess since you're on your home turf you're excused from making rational arguments Plank, your wasting your time trying to argue Urlacher is anything other than overrated here. Guys like Artist have hijacked many of my posts over the years in order to get an Urlacher dig in. Personally, I think he's just grumpy that Rocky Dennis, er, AJ Hawk isn't even the poor-man's Urlacher most Packer fans had hoped for. We know Urlacher's an excellent player, as does anyone without a blinding, anti-Bears bias, so why beat your head against the wall? B-N-D |
