Matt Forte had an exceptional rookie season. What made it more impressive was that it usually against a stacked box due to the QB play of Orton and Grossman. With a real QB that opens up more holes for Forte-who is also an excellent pass catcher.
But who will Jay throw to? Granted, the Bears have a bad WR core. We have potential everywhere in terms of Hester (go ahead and throw the bomb please) and Olsen. Earl Bennet is on our squad and he played with Jay at Vandy. Perhaps they can reconnect. The O-Line is tough too. We essentially have a rookie starting at LT (he did play with Jay at Vandy) and Kevin S. from Cleveland at right tackle. Shaffer is an upgrade over tait and St. Clair. Orlando pace is in the mix but I feel he'll be more of a mentor for Williams than anything. We have a 2nd round pick and 3 round pick I hope we draft WR and OL respectively to try to find some more talent to build around Jay with. |

The Bears can be the Vanderbilt of the NFC North.

I'm saying the Bears were 9-7 last year and the Packers were 6-10. We've improved significantly. Care to catch up? |

I have to say I remember several occasions last year where the deep play to Hester was there and Orton/Grossman choked a fat one on it. Those plays this year will turn into 6 pts. It's also a heck of a lot easier to find yourself a WR than a QB.

This doesnt belong in this section, please punt this thread to NFC Board where it belongs.
Obviously simple concepts are still lost on the Bear trolls. |

Fair enough, but I put a shortcut on it because it's an otherwise slow news day in the NFL. Hopefully this will keep the feces-flinging more centered on a secondary board as well.

That is what makes this exciting. Unproven picks VS. a real QB? If he can develop into a leader we really have something special. He's already the best QB we've ever had. |

Now the Bears will have to improve that #24 ranked run offense and that #21 ranked defense and they might have a better shot at the playoffs (even though they should have went last year had they not tanked it in that last game).

Bear fans:
You might as well knock off the "unproven picks" thing. Nobody is going to buy that. Just think, if draft picks were worthless the Bears would not have Brian Urlacher, Tommie Harris, Lance Briggs, Charles Tillman, Matt Forte, Devin Hester (the returner, not the receiver) and quite a few other quality players. |

Hopefully the D wakes the hell up. Maybe now that we'll actually have an offense they can regain their former selves. Lovie will be callign the plays this year so that *should* help. |

Knock it off? It's still a crapshoot. Are you kidding me? We also have drafted Grossman/Benson/Terell/Columbo and so on. Get real. |

Craphsoot? Of course the draft is a crapshoot. So is Cutler at this point. No one knows how this will play out, so all anyone can do is give an opinion on whether the amount of risk is worth it. Cutler has proven that he's very talented at this point, and that's it. He's also shown signs of being a baby, but some guys grow out of that with time. If I was a Barfs' fan, I'd be happy, but apprehensive about no proven WR's, a patchwork OL and Ron Turner, who's CHI's version of Tom Rossley.
Has Lovie ever called the plays? I thought he was a defensive guy. |

I'm sorry I should have been more specific. Lovie will be calling the D's plays. I've been calling for him to do that since '07. We have potential and I'm excited for that. Despite our ?'s on O, our O just became significantly better. |

I agree, out of the 32 QBs that had the most pass attempts in the NFL last year, Cutler was only 16th in passing efficiency. You look at his TD/INT ratios and they are good but not special. By no means to I think Cutler is a bad player, but I think he gets a great deal of attention because of the "fantasy" aspect rather than his efficiency on the football field. When you attempt 600+ passes, you are going to pile up the fantasy numbers. I do believe Cutler needs to become a better quarterback than he currently is to make this a good trade for the Bears (and I would perhaps go as far to say he needs to make a significant improvement). |

That's what I'm sure hoping for. The guy is talented, but his teams don't win. |

I think Cutler is a talent, but everyone forgets how much better Shanahan has made his QB's than they really are. John Elway, Brian Griese, and Jake Plummer all had their best passer ratings while with the Broncos under Shanahan. His offenses are always near the top of the league no matter who was under center. IMO, Jay looked a lot better just b/c he played for Shanahan. Who knows what will happen, but no way does this make the Bears a Super Bowl contender, which i heard on Denver sports radio this afternoon.

Don't know how good the guys at ESPN are (Dilfer & Schelerth), but it sounds like they think the Broncos got the better end of that deal.

They did very well, but you have to give up something to get what you need and sometimes overpay. The bottom line is the Bears are better today then they were yesterday. The Broncos aren't better today then they were yesterday but are better off for the future and a couple of Anacin just kicked in. Can't see why both parties aren't estatic. |

Dilfer prefers a "system" QB over a flashy one?

Schlereth and Dilfer both said Rodgers is the best QB in the division. And they are not biased Deep Throttle.

When its all said and done The Bears Still Suck.Oh and some bear fan said something about a third round pick plugging some hole for them , I think that Denver got that pick also along with the fifth.
So the Bears have a # 2 , #4, #6 and a # 7 left this year |
