WRONG. I didn't say that. In fact I was going on the assumption that AR IS the franchise guy. After all there are about a zillion posts on this forum stating it as fact. Are you claimimg he is not or just looking for a misdirection to cover your mistake in the last comment?

May I quote: "If you have your "franchise" QB (and virtually all GB fans insist they do)."

Did I misinterpret? Is it your position that Rodgers is a "franchise" QB too? If so, I apologize. I certainly hope that's not the kiss of death for his career, but if he's won over even you already that's a pretty good start after only one season as a starter.

Now would you please explain what alleged "misdirection" I'm using to cover exactly what "mistake"? I'll go out on a limb and assume that you can read, so then you should understand what the word "irrelevant" means. If not, please look it up and get back to me.

Long way to go on a wrong premise. Hope you didn't get tired. Misdrection is much more effective when others don't actually realize you are doing it.

I'm sorry, perhaps attempting to explain the rationale for why Green Bay drafted two QB's, and why keeping both of them was a better idea than signing some vet retread went completely over your head. I thought that was the topic we were discussing.

For a brief moment, I forgot you were a troll. Sorry about that too.

So teams should draft backup QBs (any other position for that matter) every year to coach up and trade for more draft picks? Sounds more like a 20/20 hindsight theory to explain what just happened to occur with a couple of guys in the past. How'd Aaron Brooks turn out? Where is Nall starting now?

Actually, there is a school of thought that a team should draft a QB nearly every year for precisely that reason (not that I necessarily subscribe to it the way Ron Wolf did).

I'll try to break this down so even you can understand it. There is only one starting QB per team (unless you have a carousel like the Bears and/or the Vikings recently) because you haven't figured out how to draft/grow/sign/trade {at least until possibly Cutler} your own. Some franchises seem to do better at developing them than others (ours as opposed to yours for example).

Assuming there is already a starter in place (franchise or not being irrelevant) then there is room for but two backups. The debate is between signing a vet retread with limited to zero ceiling and growing younger players with a perceived higher ceiling that are at least as talented (if not moreso) and also (important in the era of the cap) less expensive.

If the team/coaching staff does it's job properly the younger player in question not only offers a possible superior ROI in the future in the form of picks (should he not eventually win the starting job), but also serves to save cap money over a more expensive retread veteran that can be used elsewhere.

In other words, the developmental QBs have value to the team even if they don't play a regular season down while they're being groomed. While it's not ideal to have two rookies as backups in a given single year, the real risk was last season (and '92) not this one. Advocating cutting one or both without reserving judgement until you see where they are now as players after an entire offseason of hard work and preparation speaks to your short-sightedness (and trollness). We'll talk again in September.

BTW, you can flush the 20/20 hindsight argument. FYI, we also received compensation for Brooks (who was briefly an NFL starter and also enjoyed his best year with MM coaching him), and as far as Nall goes you can blame the Icon for ruining his career (and he was only a fifth rounder).

Not every single draft pick pans out...which you should already know first hand since had either Cade M or Rex G worked out you wouldn't have had to mortgage the farm for Cutler.

Don't forget Frye in that context. Good post.
