Opinions are great, but is there any factual basis in this opinion?

I've watched Urlacher play for several years. You define "well" a little differently than I do.

Off topic, maybe you can shed some light on my curiosity about why fans of one team come to a board populated by fans of a rival just to talk s**t. Back when I used to do it, my excuses were excessive alcohol consumption, clinical depression, and zero self-esteem, but then I got better and stopped. What's your story?

'Well', IMHO, means putting up good numbers and making good plays. The guy would have to be invincible for some folks to give him any credit.

What's my excuse? I was invited to be here by Boris/FRZ. I was under the impression that football could be discussed intelligently and rationally in these parts. I am not afraid to read opposing thoughts on the team I support. But thanks for the the review on your past, it made me chuckle a bit.

B-N-D thanks for the info, but the narrowmindedness of some folks only emboldens me to speak my mind even more.

Yeah, apparently the NFL players agree with us. They voted Urlacher the most overrated player in the league.

A poll of 361 players is not exactly the most scientific method of determining Urlacher's abilities. Jealousy? Perhaps. I'll be the first one to admit Urlacher probably gets more attention than he deserves. But the guy is marketable. The reasons why he is marketable aren't very pleasing to me, but I don't determine the factors involved in his marketability.

That's 100% accurate.

....and so far I haven't seen 46Plank do anything wrong. He's simply offering his opinion on Urlacher which is encouraged here.

So some of you regulars need to ease up on the new guy.

You regulars know how I feel about "pouncing" on the new guy. Time to ease up.

Hey Plank. That was a great Super Bowl victory for the Bears 22 years ago. I'm sure the memories keep you warm at night.

Plank wasn't a member of that team, but it does raise fond memories.

I'm sure the Packers SB win 12 years ago keeps you going as well.

Not sure what "s**t" you're refering to, but the only "s**t" I've seen on this thread so far is being espoused by Packer fans. I guess since you're on your home turf you're excused from making rational arguments Roll Eyes. All the "Puckwhacker" and "Ursucker" comments are particularly clever.

Plank, your wasting your time trying to argue Urlacher is anything other than overrated here. Guys like Artist have hijacked many of my posts over the years in order to get an Urlacher dig in. Personally, I think he's just grumpy that Rocky Dennis, er, AJ Hawk isn't even the poor-man's Urlacher most Packer fans had hoped for.

We know Urlacher's an excellent player, as does anyone without a blinding, anti-Bears bias, so why beat your head against the wall?

B-N-D

I just re-watched the Indy game. Did Pudwhacker play? I noticed a #54 picking up his jock play after play.

I see you didn't disagree. So how do you ran Squirtshelacker's play in the Big game against the Colts. Addai and Rhodes made him look like Tryin' Cox when he was with the Bears. And just like ol' Cox he's just as overrated.

Urlacher was horrible in the Super Bowl--as was every Bear's defender. In that game, the Bears had the worst, most guttless defensive gameplan I think I've ever seen a Super Bowl team run. It sickens me to this day.

As for comparing Urlacher to Brian Cox? You're going to have to work harder than that, Artist. Even Mr. Cox's immediate family couldn't make that comparison.

Ditto this Sentiment BND. I mean seriously, how thick of industrial strength green & gold welding goggles (beer googles?) do you have to have to argue that JAGs (just-a-guy) like Barnett and Hawk are better that Urlacher. I expect you will be able to pop in here and hear the same argument in x number of years while Brian is making his HOF acceptance speech. Roll Eyes

BTW: I love the Rocky Dennis reference for Hawk. I always thought Neanderthal or Cro-Magnon would be good but that one is even better. Thumbs Up

Barnett is hardly "JAG". You would kill to have him on the Bear defense.

I'll leave AJ Hawk in the "JAG" category for now but it's a little unfair when he's only been in the league 2 years.

If you want to talk "JAG's" Let's start with the Bear QB's & WR's. They're the definition of JAG's.

offtopic poof

This thread is about Urlacher not Barnett or Hawk or anything else. Try to stay on topic.

No, let's not. I have a tough time defending them. (Wish I could say the same about opposing defenses Big Grin)

If you knew any thing about statistics you would know that 361 samples taken from a universe of 2000 is HUGE. Whatever the reason, that's what they think. Amazing that fewer were jealous of truly great players like LT and Peyton Manning.

Nope, musta' missed that day at school. Exactly who were these players? Were they starters? Defensive players? Offensive? Polls aren't an exact science and there are many other players, former players, scouts, and GMs who have made statements that contradict these polls.

Why would I deny it? I have already stated the entire D got it arse whupped that day.

Shall we judge Favre's entire career based on what he did in his last big game? Nah, that would be completely ridiculous.
