It would suck if he ended up in Minnesota. They have the cap room to give him the type of money he's going to want.

"It's a situation that works out best for both sides," Allen told FOXSports.com. "I can go to a team that is competing for a championship right now."

That sure in the hell isnt the Vikings. ROFL2

With the Vikings long and glorious list of DUI offenders ... how long would it take for Jared Allen to rack up another one?

That said though the guy is a good football player, and I'd love to see him opposite Kampman. Those two fire eaters would be tough to handle.

Maybe, maybe not. If the guy had not been franchised and truly was a free agent, then I would have liked to see the Packers pursue him with gusto. But KC would probably want the Packers' first- and second-rounders for him. Too much.

That would be nice all right but no team in their right mind would take that little for Allen.

He is also their "franchise player" . Who ever trades for him would have to give up at least a first and third for him,I believe.

Here is lowdown on "Franchise Players". Does Allen have the exclusive or none-exclusive tag?

Clubs can designate an exclusive franchise player by offering the average of the top five salaries at the player's position as of the end of the restricted free agent signing period, or a 20 percent increase over his 2007 salary, or the average of the top five salaries at his position as of the end of last season -- whichever of the three is greater. The offering club retains exclusive negotiating rights and other clubs cannot negotiate with exclusive franchise players.

A non-exclusive franchise player is offered a minimum of the average of the top five salaries at his position in the 2007 season, or a 20 percent salary increase, whichever is greater. The offering club does not hold exclusive negotiating rights, and the player can negotiate with other clubs. The original club may match any offer to retain the player, or receive two first-round draft choices as compensation if it elects not to match. The signing period for non-exclusive franchise players is from Feb. 29 through July 15. Clubs have until July 15 to sign franchise players to a multi-year contract or extension; after this date the player may only sign a one-year tender for the next season.

Allen is exclusive rights

And here is his production versus GB last year in the game at KC

Key stat
The Packers, led by left tackle Chad Clifton, did a good job of keeping Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen in check, limiting the NFL's sack leader to just half a sack and two tackles. Allen had six sacks in his previous two games.

The required compensation for franchised players is only if a team attempts to sign away another team's franchised player without working out a trade beforehand. Which never happens anymore.

What typically happens is that Team B contacts Team A and says, we'll give you such and such for your franchised player. And they negotiate trade compensation, and then Team B and the player work out a new contract.

I mean, we franchised Corey Williams, and we ended up trading him for a 2nd round pick. The Bills franchised Peerless Price and traded him for a first-rounder. Etc., etc.

The last time any franchised player went for two first-rounders was (I believe) when Dallas signed Joey Galloway away from Seattle. That was a long time ago.

Allen would be worth the Packers first round draft pick but we all know that TT isn't going to give up that in a trade. He values draft picks more than any other GM in the game. If he would not give up a 4th for Randy Moss who arguably is the best WR in teh game, he is not going to give up a 1st round pick or more for a very good Defensive end. Even tho he is likely to use that first round pick on a DE if one is there HE likes.

Let the Vikings get Jared Allen. Maybe it'll be Hershel Walker II.

So we're all in agreement that if Allen goes to the Vikes he's a drunken turd and if the Packer acquires him he's a guy that deserves a second chance? Big Grin

Pretty clear from reading the article, and following football transactions, that it will take much more than the Packers (low) 1st round pick.

Multiple high picks for a risky player??....TT is too smart to go for that.
