I just pray he sticks with it so that he has at least 50% of the Jets snaps this year.
70% and a playoff birth would be amazing (2nd round pick) |

This was just embarrassing.
Great media opportunity for Bloomberg, though. God, I hate politicians. Brett looked exhausted and still doesn't sound very enthusiastic. When he held up the Broadway sign that was just too much for me. I think the small town Mississippi QB was cringing through the whole thing. Yeah, he's regretting his decision...you can tell. New Yorkers are expecting big things too, like a Super Bowl berth or something. I think Brett is under enormous pressure now. I think he's put himself in a very tight spot and is feeling overwhelmed at the moment. When I was watching the whole thing, I just kept wondering why Brett was doing this instead of studying the playbook and getting ready for the season. |

Wow, I almost feel sorry for him. Every time I see Brett talking to the press in NY, it seems he's trying to lower the expectation bar. Sorry Brett...you better win or you'll be Bar-B-Qed by the press. I think he'll be praying for retirement by mid-season.

I think Brett should have made a pre-trade visit to NY before the deal was done. As it is he stepped off the plane into a hullabaloo. My guess is this kind of stuff aint going to stop either. The Jets will have PR gigs for him to do.
Brett, Brett, Brett...what you gotten yourself into? |

Saw an interview with Brett. Brett said Deanna asked him, "When are you going to start playing football?" Brett replied, "Hopefully Saturday." I hope Brett and the Jets have a great season this year. I really do! I'll be rooting for them. I can hardly wait for next years circus in the off-season when Favre does his usual waffling back & forth. That will play out just great with the NY Media. |

Couple things jump out at me:
He speaks only of himself when it comes to performance. If it does not work out, then that's the way it goes. Says they only plan on being there 5 months. Deanna asked "when do you start playing football?" as opposed to doing PR stuff. (hey Deanna, get used to it. Football in Green Bay is life...in NY it is simply entertainment.) Says their daughter is the person most excited person about this move. |

I have mixed feelings about him with the NYJs. He is just another NFL qb to me now. I do not wish ill to him, nor do I wish him well. (My wife is incredibly furious about this whole thing. Both with Favre and the Packers.)
Oh yeah, I noticed he is clean shaven. Do ya think he might have to shave once a day now? |

He didn't say that. He said let's see what happens after these 5 months are over. He said "No guarantees." which is true. You should hope the Jets do well. That means the Packers receive a better draft pick as long as Favre is playing. |

It looks very likely to me that the Jets were far more interested in getting Brett Favre the celebrity than they were Favre the football player. They've got a coaching staff and a GM on the hotseat and a new stadium and practice facility to pay for as well as sellling the season ticket holders on the PSL's that they're going to have to pony up. As Satori says, follow the money.

Also, I'm going back over the exact moment the trade went down. I have NFL Network TIVO'd when it happened.
Schefter said the Bucs were not offering anywhere NEAR what the Jets offered. Schefter thinks the Bucs offered like a 7th for Favre the same thing they offered for Jake Plummer. What a bunch of fools! When the Packers came back and told the Bucs what the Jets were offering, I'll bet the Bucs thought the Packers were bluffing. TT doesn't bluff. He's the steely eyed assassin! TT is the Phil Hellmuth of GM's you don't play poker against him or you lose. If Tampa truly wanted Favre they needed to step up and pay some BANK to get him. I don't understand why they wouldn't. They gave up TWO first rounders to get Gruden for god sakes. They played poker with TT and got burned I love the fact TT placed the provision in the deal that if the Jets trade Favre to ANY TEAM in the NFC North, the Pack receives 3 first round picks. Brilliant! Hell, I want the Jets to trade him to Minny now. They could trade Favre to Minny for 3 first rounders. LOL! Stop the madness!!! |

That's a great evaluation MsPacman. The "celebrity factor" seems more important than anything. |

Yes, I know the better Brett does, the better the Packers do. But that is the business side of it. I am still stuck on the emotional side. Most likely will be until Sept 8th and whenever we see highlights of Brett the Jet.
My wife was commenting, what if he ended up back in GB to finish up as the back up to AR and so he could truly retire as a Packer. Stranger things have happened. |

It's nice to see the typical NYC bigotry, from the comments:
The funny thing is the whole gushing over a big celebrity athlete coming to play in New York shows that New York fans are just as provincial and unsophisticated as they claim everybody else is. |

Sorry, the only thing I came away from the press conference with is the fact that Hizzoner Bloomberg has no upper lip. Zero. Zilch. Nada.Just a flap under his nose, like Zoidbert, that moves uncontrollably and makes dumb sounds.
