I'm sure you've seen Rodgers' contract numbers by now...pretty impressive eh?

I don't know if Silverstein's math ($10.379m under) is accurate or not...

On his sheet it lists Collins as a FA next year. Is that true then and not this coming? It has Cole and Tauscher?

Collins signed a 5-year deal so he's not a free agent until 2010.

Are you sure about that? I think the last year might be voidable.

A lot of guys need raises.

I don't see a reason not to lock up Crosby as long as we're tossing names out there of guys who should stay in GB long-term. Is anyone not as lazy as me and willing to post what the going rate for a good K is these days? I know Crosby's not coming up on FA, but that hasn't seemed to stop TT from signing guys before.

Does one know if Collins can void that last year? And what does the cap space look so far heading into next year? GD posted the OL that are available. What are the DL and LB crop look like?

The "LastYr" column lists the player's final year under contract...i.e., Nick Collins' final year is 2009. WRT his last year (2009) being voidable. I don't believe it is. The following text is what I've saved WRT reporting on his rookie contract:

http://www.jsonline.com/packer/news/jul05/344871.asp
Collins, taken 51st overall, signed a five-year deal worth $3.76 million, including a $600,000 signing bonus ($120,000/yr*5) and a $1.01 million option bonus payable next year, according to a source with access to NFL Players Association salary information. He'll also receive a $220,000 roster bonus this year and minimum base salaries of $230,000 in '05, $310,000 in '06, $385,000 in '07, $460,000 in '08 and $545,000 in '09.
There is also an escalator clause that would jack up Collins' earnings considerably in 2009 if he becomes a premier player.

I also expect they'll try to extend Jennings before 2009 is finished. Tramon Williams will be an EFA after this season...NFI whether TT will try to get a long-term deal with him or not. I expect not...

I still want the Packers to extend Mark Tauscher.

I think they need to extend Colin Cole.

I think your 1st question has been answered...wrt the 2nd, that's a question that also interests me. My WAG at this point is the Packers have spent ~$93,516,946.75 of the cap (whatever that may be)...plus they'll likely have a
~$6m or so rebate from 2008.

I missed GD's post and I'm too lazy to search...

I'd also be interested in hearing about the 2009 college crop.

JJSD, you pose an interesting thought/concept. Here's another:

Gostkowski, Stephen K
Crosby, Mason
Fields, Brandon
Folk, Nick

Which guy doesn't belong in the above group?

Gostkowski, from the group above, will be getting the top base salary at $530k. The other three will get $460k base. Crosby's contract doesn't expire until after 2010 plus he missed the game winning kick vs the Vykes.

nIce Avitars; yeah, you're right about Nick Collins. I hope he doesn't become a me player after he makes the probowl this year.

Yeah, Cole and Tauscher are the main UFAs (IMO, the only UFAs that count). I think it's a lock to resign Colin Cole but I'm not sure about Tauscher...not
sure how much TT values him.

My initial WAG was off...It's now $94,081,947 cap expenditure.

I'd be very disappionted if the packers don't sign Mark Tauscher and it would be a big mistake! Tausch is a Wisconsite and a Packer since 2000! Keep him a Packer until he is ready to retire! I also believe if TT lets him go the offense line might have adjusting to a new guy at right tackle!!

I understand your wanting the Packers to be loyal to Tausch, but if/when he reaches the point that he can't produce at a high quality level, (and his play has dropped off some this season), then it's time to move on. If that means a release, not re-signing him or moving him to back-up, then so be it. I would rather the line get used to a younger more capable player then keep an aging one on the line who's skills are declining.

Plus, the Packers could get a pick for letting him walk to a big deal from another team.

Yeah, they could get a pick...or not...I'd rather keep Tauscher instead of gambling on getting a pick they don't necessarily need.

Tauscher has had a bad game or two in 2008 but I don't believe his play has really dropped off per say...He's still a core player IMO and hopefully TT treats him as such (and doesn't procrastinate until the FA market opens). Tauscher is still in the prime-time age bracket for an OLman and he's not nearly as beat-up as Clifton.

Btw, what back-up?

Back-up, as in not a starter.
I'm not advocating dumping Tauscher by any means. I would like to see him return. I don't feel he is playing at as high of a level in seasons past, but he is still a quality player.
What I am saying is don't hang on to someone too long out of loyalty.
