Looks like the price of drinks at Milwaukee watering holes will go up if Brewer demands are met.

The team wants to charge a $300 fee for shuttle service to and from Miller Park. Ostensibly, the Brewers cite safety concerns as the reason for the fees. Some 30 bars offer a shuttle service which thrifty fans use, skipping the cost of parking in stadium lots.

Correct me here if my math is wrong:

$300.00 yearly fee for each bar
x 30 app. bars
-----------------
= a whopping $9000.00 clams in the Brewers' coffer plus a miniscule parking fee.

What am I really missing here?

Are you buying the "safety" thing??

Brewers' spokesman Tyler Barnes said the $300 fee was imposed because of safety concerns related to the intersection of W. Blue Mound Road and N. Story Parkway and the drop-off point near the home plate area. Those concerns include pedestrian traffic and shuttle activity.

"The best solution in our eyes was to staff the intersection with Milwaukee police officers, as well as add staffing to the drop-off locations," Barnes said. "The fee will help, but not completely cover the expenses related to staffing."

Seems pretty straight forward, not an exorbitant fee to really be a revenue stream and just enough to cause local bars to commit to it. Seems like a case of "nothing to see here keep moving".

seems reasonable to me. I can see bar owners complaining they have to pay a fee when in the past they did not, but I don't think the 3 bills will break them and the service/safety should improve. Not the worst case of partnering I've ever heard of.

Maybe they can use that extra dough to help pay for those horrible Soup and Hall contracts.

This thread was missing that mandatory comment. Big Grin

Those shuttle services are awesome. The last two years I have taken my dad, who is now 83, to games and the shuttle bus saved my dad A LOT of walking. We used Steve's on Bluemound shuttle and my Dad loved it, except for the crowded ride back. This seems like a bad PR move for the Brewers. What next, fine fans who wear Cubs jerseys? Wait--that's a good idea!

This is a petty dumb decision by the Brewers. Why would they want to bite the hand that feeds them? This is a service that the Brewers should be willing to bite the bullet on. If I owned the Brewers and 30 bars wanted to be part of my team and help me sell tickets to my game, I'd be thrilled.

This is not unlike a situation a few years ago when the US Marine Band from Louisiana was playing the National Anthem and the Brewers made them buy tickets and charged them $50 to park their bus. That's another level of cheap that is unbelievable.

Is this related to the High Speed rail service proposed yesterday? Madison bars competeing with Brewtown bars?

That would be great if the high speed rail went right by Miller Park. Oh, and had a stop there too.
