I guess my point is why take someone else's Looper and a low level prospect instead of filling a position and saving money?

If you're right, it means that he and Attanasio have targetd the cream of the FA SP crop. It's a gamble, because they could easily be left holding the bag...

I have no interest in that game at all.
Just putting 1 + 1 together and thinking you would like to see him "come back and play well". Sorry, I guess I was wrong hmm1

By dumping Hardy and Cameron Milwaukee just freed up over $14M. Gomez made about $400,00 last year and can replace Cam in centerfield although we lose HR power. But I'm OK with that since that money can go towards a top FA pitcher or resigning Fielder long term!

I would guess if they aren't willing to trade Fielder then they would likely be targeting another starting pitcher.

like has been quoted above me (this post), it also frees up big dough in a trade, say the Hart/Vazquez (and/or combination) speculation.

The bottom line is if you be honest about it, if Gomez flames out, losing Hardy isn' going to make or break this club during this window. The rest of the offseason could however...

There are rumors floating around that someone within the division offered up a pitcher and that speculation was around Aaron Harang. I would have loved Harang but this might mean that Capps was the guy, which in case I'd rather have Gomez (at least today I feel that way).

The Pirates offered Capps to the Milwaukee Brewers in an attempt to trade for shortstop J.J. Hardy, according to an American League source. Hardy went to the Minnesota Twins Nov 6 in a trade that sent outfielder Carlos Gomez to the Brewers.--Pittsburgh Post Gazette

Capps is no friend of the Brewers, especially Fielder. Capps has intentionally hit a few Brewers the last couple years.

According to this, Melvin passed on Capps and Doumit for Hardy:

I read it as Capps or Doumit. Doumit I like, but he has been fragile, weak with the glove, or weak with the stick in some combination every year.

Capps sucks.

Good call. It could be read that way. Another point about this is that the Crew has LuCroy and Salome just about ready. If they bring in a catcher it's gotta be a one-year rental (like Henry Blanco Thumbs Up).

RFB has been busy lately- “Check Me Out on Your TV-Radio”

I really want creativity like this out of the Crew fanbase.
