Wrong. I would take someone who at least can run and contribute to this team. Suppan adds more strain to the BP.

ohthedrama Obviously, you guys think Suppan money is well spent. Again, at least i can offer someone a logical replacement. Let me hear your ideas.

ROFL Until then STFU.

Byrnes' splits against lefties were just fine in 2007 and 2008 before getting hurt (.248/.331/.455 and .258/.333/.484). He never really got going this past season due to lingering problems from the hamstring tear from 2008 so I would not put much emphasis on his numbers from 2009. He isn't great, but I would much rather have him in a platoon with Gerut than have Suppan in the rotation.

Actually I think I've come around to Artist's way of thinking(??).....I think Byrnes could be a solid replacement for Suppan next year.

Still, to be 100% convinced, I'd need to see a career comparison of egg carton recycling rates while in a platoon.

You mean take him out behind the woodshed? rimshot

Do we have career stats on that somewhere that the rest of us could ignore for a while?

You guys done playing with each other.

Suppan sucks. He wears on the BP.

If we decide to platoon Gerut, Byrnes salary would make sense. His career platoon stats vs LH pitching are very good.

Obviously, talking to the handicaps on "hear" is impossible.

And yet you keep trying to save us all. What a jeenyous.

I'm souring on Byrnes. I mean, what kind of a nickname can you really make out of that boring name? Pigpen has already been used.

And D-bag is already used for Favre so you're out of that one.

Can anyone explain to me what makes Lackey such a great free agent pitcher? 11-8 with a 3.83 ERA, and that should net a pitcher $16 mil a year? Where do I sign up?

Pitching is a premium and Lackey is the best out there in a bad free agent pitching class. Doesn't make it right but it is what it is.

What I like about Lackey is he has been a workhorse.

Lackey has been one of the best pitchers in the AL for four of the past five years.

Lackey is a legit #1 starter and if they could add him that would be great but I don't think they can afford him and my guess is that one of the big markets teams will sign him.

Back to the "two pitchers" subject, how about Carl Pavano and John Smoltz? faint

http://www.boston.com/sports/b..._comeback/?page=full

Now to get back off-topic. If the Red Sox sign Lackey they would be willing to trade Buchholz for Adrian Gonzalez (at least that is the speculation by this writer). Gonzalez is an excellent player but he does not have the bat of Prince Fielder, and that is what the Red Sox are looking for. If Buchholz goes on the market, the Brewers need to figure out the Fielder situation quickly. I think they need to make their absolute top offer right now and if not they need to trade him at peak value. If the Red Sox would be willing to a package deal centered around Gonzalez and Buchholz, I think the Brewers could get Buchholz, Bard and probably 3 more good prospects for Fielder. Holding onto Prince another year and becoming a contender with Pavano and Smoltz in the rotation....give me a break. They need to get him signed to an extension RIGHT NOW or be looking to trade him.

Gonzalez makes less in the next two years than Prince does in 2010. Factoring in salary, defense, and park factors, I would say Gonzalez was the better of the two last year and possibly the next two years. Gonzalez hit .306/.402/643 with 28 HR away from Petco. He has hit more than 20 HR on the road each of the last three seasons and has had an OPS higher than .905 on the road every season with the Padres, with each season better than the prior.

Prince is the better bat, but it isn't by as much as it appears. Salary, even for a big market team, does come into play.
