Melvin says he is going out and getting two starters for next year. Suppan, Yo, and Parra are locks b/c of contract. That means Looper's option isn't picked up and Bush isn't offered arbitration.

Who are your two guys, either through free agency or trade who come in to round out the pitching staff?

me,

Brandon Webb and Dave Bush.

Lackey is going to be the prized FA possession, so I would look toward Wolf or Bedard or somebody like that and hope you don't break the bank doing it. The next thing I would do is deal Fielder for a Cain or Tommy Hanson or somebody like that (along with other prospects or players).

There is no way Milwaukee will be able to go out and find two legit starting pitchers without trading Fielder.

I think Looper or possibly Bush is let go. I think Suppan will not be back, whether it be a trade for a bad contract or just release him.

I think they will go hard after Lackey for one spot. In order to do so Hardy and Cameron will both be gone.

To fill the second spot I think they trade with the Marlins, Twins, Orioles, Braves, or Giants to land any of the following: Nolasco or Andrew Miller from the Marlins, Liriano, Guthrie, Lowe or Kawakami from the Braves, or Johnathon Sanchez.

Lackey
Gallardo
Trade
Looper or Bush
Parra

Gallardo
Greinke
Washburn
Looper
Suppan/Anyone with a heartbeat once they eat Soup's contract in June. Narveson.

Washburn would draw local fans plus replace Parra as the resident lefty.

Alright, I thought Lackey was bold enough that I could skate by the five potential trade candidates.

I will go with Ricky Nolasco as my other selection. Gamel used as bait.

Ratpack...is the weed good? No way Melvin would get Greinke. He's not that good enough to make that trade(melvin).

the greinke thing seems unrealistic and if payroll concerns are part of the decision process in getting a guy like lackey....would taking a flyer on some combination of sheets, duchscherer or webb be unreasonable? i know there would be the oft injured concerns but its one of those classic high risk high rewards.

Washburn might be the FA target.

I'll go with adding Doug Davis as a free agent and obtaining Michael Bowden in a trade involving J.J. Hardy. I'd also predict that they will offer Dave Bush arbitration and buyout the Looper contract. So then they would go into next season with Gallardo, Davis, Suppan, Bush, Parra and Bowden as the top 6 candidates with 5 making the rotation and either Parra or Bowden being sent down to the minors. They also could end up trading Suppan for a bad outfielder contract (brosto has mentioned Pierre or Byrnes in the past and either one makes sense) if the other five show well in spring training. There is also a chance that Capuano could be in the mix as a 5th starter/swingman type.

Byrnes playing LH pitching in CF might make sense then.

I keep hearing about how good Washburn is, and that his poor pitching in Detroit was due to a knee injury.

How is that a positive thing? If he was 26, maybe, but he is going to be 36 next year. Without the knee thing and the growing older thing he might get a big payday. If Melvin can get him cheap (I don't know what is cheap enough for me, 7-8 mil a year for no more than 2 year and Looper is let go) and he is healthy, I can see it.

How about Noah Lowry, who was released. Still under 30, a southpaw, a history of good pitching, and a history of being hurt that might drive his price down. Lets see just how good Peterson is.

Obviously you don't. Check out his platoon stats in his career vs LH. Check mate for you and the dodo bird.

This is what I thought. Makes sense...last deal for Washburn, and finishes his career back home. He's not a bad #3 to have

.245 .316 .472

EB for the last 3 years vs left handed pitching.

.271 .300 .521

Jody vs Lefties over the last three years.

EB would be a downgrade (meaning worse) hitter vs left handed pitching that the guy you want to platoon him with.

If by "checkmate" you mean "I've sounded dum" discussing the hitting prowess of Mike Cameron and Eric Byrnes for the last couple days, you are correct.

Did you bother to look at his career numbers as a platoon player or just make up some stuff? Again, quite pulling a CB.

Byrnes for Suppan would be a plus for the Brewers. I'd rather pay for someone's salary and not have to stick him out there every 5th day and know he's going to chew up the BP.

vs LHP as RH 439 1080 982 279 69 11 44 125 28 6 88 146 .284 .345 .511 .857 502 15 5 3 2 7 11 .296 123

Nice selective viewing. Bawk..

bottom, line post about CF in "CF's" thread. Not the Two starting pitchers thread. Sparta education....

Suppan has a career ERA of 4.68, should we expect that next year?

I can see trading Soup to free us from his two years for one year of Byrnes, but AB doesn't (and shouldn't) excite me a a hitter at all anymore. That didn't seem to be the point you were making. Looking back, you tried to drive the point that Cam couldn't hit lefties (wrong) and that EB would be a good platoon choice for Gerut b/c he did hit lefties (wrong).

Seeing as it's time for this check cashing dog to 'earn' another contract it wouldn't surprise me.

Huh? I was suggesting someone to platoon in CF if Cameron wasn't brought back.

Suppan hasn't had one good year so far in his three with us so why expect anything now.

I showed Byrnes stats in his career as a platoon player overall. You obviously missed the stats that you couldn't read.

zero

And those platoon splits look pretty pedestrian over the last 3 seasons (i.e. he is regressing like Suppan).
