I really hope the Brewers keep Bush and he doesn't become a late spring training dump like Vargas was a few seasons ago. It would be great to have 6 legitimate guys for the rotation (if you count Suppan and Parra, some folks might debate that) and be able to pick 5 from that bunch.
Roster/payroll update: In millions Current contracts: Jeff Suppan = 12.5 Prince Fielder = 10.5 Randy Wolf = 5.25 (4.0 million deferred) Trevor Hoffman = 7.5 David Riske = 4.5 Doug Davis = 4.25 Dave Bush = 4.215 LaTroy Hawkins = 3.5 Rickie Weeks = 2.75 Craig Counsell = 2.1 Todd Coffey = 2.025 Jody Gerut = 2.0 Gregg Zaun = 1.9 Carlos Gomez = 1.1 Ryan Braun = 1.05 Claudio Vargas = 0.9 --------------------------------- Bill Hall = 7.15 (dead money) Braden Looper = 1.0 (buyout) David Weathers = 0.4 (buyout) Arbitration (all estimates): Corey Hart = 4.5 Carlos Villanueva = 1.0 Pre-arbitration (all estimates): Yovani Gallardo = 0.7 Manny Parra = 0.6 Mitch Stetter = 0.5 Casey McGehee = 0.5 Alcides Escobar = 0.5 Total of above = 82.89 million Roster as it shapes up: Catcher = Gregg Zaun Infielders = Prince Fielder, Rickie Weeks, Alcides Escobar, Casey McGehee, Craig Counsell Outfielders = Ryan Braun, Carlos Gomez, Corey Hart, Jody Gerut Starting pitchers = Yovani Gallardo, Randy Wolf, Doug Davis, Dave Bush, Manny Parra, Jeff Suppan Relief pitchers = Trevor Hoffman, LaTroy Hawkins, Todd Coffey, Mitch Stetter, Claudio Vargas, Carlos Villanueva, David Riske |

That Suppan contract still boggles my mind. Randy Wolf is a much better pitcher and won't make as much as Suppan. Dougie really screwed the pooch on that one.

It's a good move bringing back Bush because as a #4 or #5 guy he's about as good as anyone in the league. Where they've gotten into trouble with the guy is when others get hurt and he's forced to move up the rotation and the expectations get higher.
Right now, they still need to get #5 determined but at least their top 4 spots are well established. |

I always thought Bush could be effective out of the pen as well.
He's teased us enough, let's hope that injury was the reason for his ineffectiveness and he can finally put together a full season. |
