Parra on the hill today for the Sounds:

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/48261337.html

Does this sound familiar?

I just checked and Parra surrendered a run on two hits and two walks in the first inning, leaving the bases loaded by striking out a hitter for the third out. It all started with two outs and nobody on base, and a walk. That's the problem Parra had with the Brewers, too. Getting in trouble with walks. A very shaky first inning with the Sounds.

It's not a "stuff" problem with Parra. As they've all said, he has major league stuff, but he's got a little league head. How does a guy pitch really well and then lose his focus so quickly? Bosio has his work cut out for him.

Some minor league pitching stuff from Handricourt's blog.

quote:
*Assistant general manager Gord Ash said it’s becoming evident that the Brewers won’t be getting a contribution from left-hander Chris Capuano this season. Capuano remains in Arizona, undergoing a throwing program after his second “Tommy John” reconstructive elbow surgery in May 2008.

“He threw a bullpen the other day,” said Ash. “It’s been a long, slow grind. He gets full marks for grinding it out.

“(As for pitching for the Brewers), probably not until next year, which probably isn’t a bad thing.”

*Left-hander Zach Braddock and right-hander Rob Wooten have been promoted from high Class A Brevard County to Class AA Huntsville. Braddock was 1-1 with a 1.09 ERA in 14 relief outings, with 12 hits and four walks allowed in 24 2/3 innings and 40 strikeouts.

Wooten closed games for Brevard, going 1-1 with a 1.20 ERA in 26 appearances, with 18 saves in 19 opportunities and 44 strikeouts in 30 innings.

Ash said that Braddock, a former starting pitcher, has the kind of stuff to move quickly to the big leagues. He has dealt with health problems and emotional issues in the past, and Ash said his routine is being “monitored closely.”

Wooten, a 13th-round pick in 2008 out of North Carolina, is more of a command pitcher who succeeds by hitting spots. With Braddock and Wooten moving up, reliever Omar Aguilar was sent down from Huntsville to Brevard.

The Brewers also promoted reliever John Axford from Huntsville to Nashville and closer Jim Henderson from low Class A Wisconsin to Brevard. Henderson had a 1.06 ERA in 26 outings for the Timber Rattlers, with 17 saves in 17 chances.

Ash said right-hander R.J. Seidel, who suffered a serious knee injury over the winter, had begun a rehab program in Arizona with hopes of pitching for Wisconsin in two or three weeks.

Seidel pitched for La Crosse Central and took the Brewers offer rather than go to Arkansas on a full ride a couple years ago. Good to know he's going to start pitching soon.

Soto Stoned

Cubs catcher Geovany Soto tested positive for marijuana while playing for Puerto Rico during the World Baseball Classic last March, the International Baseball Federation announced Thursday.

Meltdown Bradley living up to reputation. Have a strong feeling they will eat part of the 3/$30 million in a year or so.

Gotta love that!!!

quote:
This was a problem with Bradley, the man who seems hell-bent on becoming the poster boy for the Cubs' 2009 struggles. First it was the injuries, then the suspension after arguing balls and strikes with Larry Vanover. Then Bradley threw the ball into the stands with fewer than three outs. Then, on Wednesday night in Detroit -- after striking out in the ninth inning with two runners on base -- he tried to snap a bat over his thigh. And failed. And now there's this, throwing a temper tantrum in the sixth inning of a 2-2 game after hitting a fly ball with one out and no one on base.

What's up with Jason Bourgeois? He hasn't been in the line up for the last few days. Trade material? Called up to Milwaukee? Injured?

Mariners move Betancourt to the Royals. Not much backing him up. Wonder if Jack Z. and Melvin have something cooking?

Lindsay Gulin went 7 innings for Nashville last night allowing a mere 2 hits, 1 earned run, one walk, and 7 K's.

Mark Mulder, LHP, free agent - Mulder will be in Cincinnati this week to work with his former coach from Michigan State, putting the finishing touches on his rehab from major shoulder surgery. He’s worked out his arm slot and now has to perfect his stride. “I’m hoping that by the last week of July we can start entertaining offers,’’ said his agent, Gregg Clifton. “It doesn’t appear he’s going to need much time in the minors because he’s been throwing all along.’’ The Dodgers, Brewers, and Phillies have remained interested.

Dave Bush is expected to start in Huntsville tonight in the final appearance of his rehab assignment, and could rejoin the starting rotation on July 20.

Waddya say we get the second have Dave Bush of 2008?

His 1st half of 2009 was pretty solid too until he got hurt. Having him back in the rotation will be a huge lift.

Bush not so good in his first, and supposedly only, rehab start:

Heymen

Brewers upper management seems disappointed by the team's first half. Their fine owner, Mark Attanasio, isn't ruling out a run at a star pitcher, but things haven't looked especially hopeful for Halladay or ex-Brewer Doug Davis. The Brewers used their farm system to acquire CC Sabathia last year but seem to want to hold onto hitting sensation Mat Gamel and shortstop whiz Alcides Escobar this time around. With shortstop J.J. Hardy, the Brew Crew would appear to have depth at that position, though.

It'll be interesting to see who looks to Peavy come August if he gets back on the field. That's a lot of money, so the Padres don't have much bargaining power. The Brewers could package a lower minor (but touted) leaguer plus JJ and see if they bite. JJ would be an upgrade...
