Josh Johnson signed an extension. Is it time to do something similar with Yo? We have him cheap a little longer, but perhaps if we toss some coin his way now, we can buy out some of those later years cheap. There is certainly risk for both sides, but I sure would like to know that is one spot in the rotation we can keep locked up for the long term.

Agreed, but dont you think the crew will wait a year? I think they will wait this year out and do this come arbitration for Yo.

next year it will have to reflect Josh's, around 10 million a year +. Now they might be able to save a few million by jumping on this train early.
Johnson got 4 years, 39 million. how about Yo for 5 years, 32 million. Money in his pocket now, locked up young pitcher for 5 years. |

I know Yo is different, but the Brewers have not had much luck with Multi-Year deals with pitchers lately. I agree, give him another healthy/productive year and then throw him a multi-year contract

I wouldn't mind that EKB, it will be interesting how the organization approaches it. This is the first pitcher that they will think about treating like that. Pitchers are so funny, they can be good.. then they can sink to oblivion (just like that). I think Yovanni is a safe bet though. However, with 4 years of control.. they just might play it out this season and buy out arb if he stays healthy.

I think locking up Yo now is the smartest move the organization could make! Sure, we had no luck with Sheets, but had that guy been able to stay healthy we'd be saying a whole lot of different things about him right now. Its unfortunate his body broke down like it did. I also think it is what keeps him from signing more than a one or two year deal loaded with incentives at this point.
Suppan was a bust from the get go. There is a reason that Milwaukee was willing to sign him to a long term deal and not that many other teams would. He had really one nice season and pitched his ass off in the WS. Soup is the worst case scenario though. (I am banking on Wolfe not being another Suppan in waiting) Its why we let Looper walk this season and why we won't sign Maulder to a long term deal...or any other known aging commodity out there. (I could be drastically wrong about Wolfe). Yo has shown durability, has recovered well from his ACL and has backed up that with solid pitching. I still think he's a legit #2 who after another season (He could break out this year) will be a legit #1. If you can sign him long term now...you gotta do it! |

Yo can look all day for this, there is no way in hell he gets that or anywhere close. I can see 4 yrs, $32 mil...if he does good this year. |
