New Coach is Buzz Williams. I talked to about 10 MU students today, not a one was happy with it.
I guess though, they probably would not have gotten a big name guy. He's a guy that if things dont go right next year... you can fire and start over. Ala Brad Soderburgh.... sort of. Freakin Bennett leavin us with him for a year, if anything he could have left us with Tony. |

I've seen interviews with a number of MU players. They all seemed very positive and believe Williams will be a good coach. That may be more significant than what a few MU students think about the selection.

MU is a stepping stone job. Crean held it until THE job that we wanted came calling. MU is obviously big time compared to the late 80s early 90s, but it is still not a big time destination program like KU, UNC, Indiana, Kentucky (even they are not what they were, or UCLA.
It sounds like they have good players coming in and this hire was about damage control (not running off the recruits). This guy has some pedigree and seems to have the juice when it comes to recruiting. If it keeps 2 of the big three around (not sure why James would go pro but....) and they can keep the ball rolling and he is any kind of coach, they might be able to either keep the program on it's current pace or even build on it. What Crean has done making and keeping MU in the top 3rd of the Big East has been above what I thought they could do. Maybe this guy can do better. Who knows? |

I'm ok with the Buzz hiring. It gives them some continuity with current players and recruits, and if he turns out to be as good an Xs and Os coach as he is a recruiter, you have a good situation.
Or if in two years he's a complete bust, you buy out his contract and get an up and comer from the coaching ranks. From what I've heard from UNO fans (his only head coaching gig), he couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag. I guess time will tell. |

I would imagine that McNeal will go the go into the draft but not hire an agent route. If he goes pro his defense will be missed big time. If he comes back they are solid and I look to them to make a run which is what I thought they were poised to do this year.

I am a huge Badger fan and I hope Buzz is very successful. I absolutely could not stand Tom Crean. I wanted him to lose every game similar to Izzo. He received way to much hype and credit. He was insanely lucky to have recruited Dwayne Wade. No one in the country thought he would turn into the player he did and I doubt Crean had anything to do with his development. I wish Marquette all the best except against my alma mater, Wisconsin.

One last thing. Lets see how the "great" Tom Crean does at IU. They are looking for a Bob Knight type record not 18-13.
