Led by Madison LaFollette grads Jonte Flowers, Quincy Henderson and Curtrel Robinson Winona State beat Northern State in the North Central region championship on Tuesday night. Jonte Flowers had an amazing game, 33 points, 8 boards and a bunch of steals. All the times I have seen him play it's still amazing to me he is not playing D1 someplace. He just dominates at this level. There were about 4000 people at the game and it was a lot of fun.

They play Grand Valley State on Wednesday. Grand Valley is the same team that beat Michigan State in double OT to start the season. It will be a tough game.

It's hard to fathom that the TOP 2 teams in the Nation have to meet in a Quarterfinal matchup.

Grand Valley is still PERFECT at 36-0!!!!!! omg omg omg

They're the TWO TIME DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS. Headbanger Headbanger Headbanger

Winona State is 35-1. omg

Definitely should be the TITLE Game.

Nope, WSU is not 2 time defending champs. They choked away a 7 pt lead with 45 seconds left last year in the championship game. They won it in 2006 and the loss ended a 57 game winning streak. Frowner Their loss this year was in OT against D3 St. Johns, albeit with 4 starters out.

I agree though it is too bad they are playing the first game. I don't even think the game will be on TV.

No, they are not. Impossible considering they lost last year in the quarterfinals and Barton College beat Winona in the championship. In 2006 Winona won it all, beating Virginia Union in the championship.

In fact they have never won a D2 championship. Perhaps they have won their region the last 2 years, but no NCAA championships.

Despite getting outscored 18-0 the final 12 minutes of the first half Winona won last night by 13 points. Jonte Flowers had another amazing game. He really dominates at this level. They play another undefeated team in Bentley College tonight at 7:30 pm. He is closing in on the all time steals mark for all levels of NCAA basketball. He already has the d2 record.

Some incredible defenders, those Flowers kids.

Back to the championship game! They won 86-75 over undefeated Bentley. Bentley has lost 2 games the last 2 years, both to Winona. Hopefully they can avenge the horrible loss last year. They play Augusta State on Saturday at 1:30, on CBS.

Yeah that was a crazy game. We drove down to Winona to watch the game with a bunch of other fans. It was a lot of fun but a lot of down people when they were down 16. Augusta just did not miss any shots in the first half. That center, Siler, was very difficult to stop but he sort of disappeared in the 2nd half. The 3 pointer at the halftime buzzer was huge. Jonte Flowers was MOP of the Elite 8 for the 2nd time (he won same award in 06 when they won title the first time).

It was a great run. They will probably still be very good but the run they had probably came to an end yesterday. To have 3 legit Division 1 players on the same D2 team for 3 years is extremely rare. But man it sure was a fun 3 years.

Winona showed a TON of heart that game... I was really impressed! One of the best college games that I have watched in a long time... Even better than D1 games! Seriously!
