Scott Skiles has hire calling

According to a source close to the former Chicago Bulls head coach, Skiles is already in talks with another team - believed to be the Milwaukee Bucks - and could have a deal in place by next week.

The Daily News is usually wrong more than they are right but in this case I do know that the Bucks have talked to Skiles (as well as Carlisle).

Skiles has his pros and cons but he is a definite upgrade. I want to see some of our current players pull the same crap with him that they have been pulling with every coach we've had over the past several years. Although hopefully many of this current crop are shipped out over the summer.

My favorite Skiles story is when he leveled Shaq in practice.

yep, skiles has been one of the four names mentioned since the writings been on the wall. I don't know if there is a perfect fit out there. All the coaches being discussed come with their warts.

I wouldn't mind skiles much at all. Like VV says - worst case he's an upgrade. Of all the other names being discussed he'd probably bring the most up-tempo approach to the floor. RC, LB and JVG all play a pretty slow game, but all I care about at this points are Ws.

It would be an odd journey for Scott Skiles to return to the team that brought him into the NBA. I would rather have Carlisle, though.

According to the JSO this morning...

quote:
A team source said the Bucks were pursuing former Bulls coach Scott Skiles, who also might be a strong candidate for the Knicks' anticipated opening. Skiles, a close friend of Krystkowiak's, advised him when the Bucks promoted Krystkowiak to the head coaching job in March of last year.

I wonder if their friendship will have any kind of impact on this process.

So was Carlisle a rumor, a smoke screen or did he tell the Bucks that he is going to the Bulls?

I'm sure the Bucks have talked to Carlisle, Skiles, Brown and Van Gundy. Herb likes to keep these things as quiet as he can.

The last public word we had about Hammond was that Detroit refused us permission to talk to him and then all of a sudden we hired him.

I expect a new coach soon.

NYPost and Yahoo Sports both reporting that Mark Jackson is expected to replace Thomas (which is nothing new). There were some speculating that Skiles could go to NY.

I thought I read Carlisle is due in Milwaukee today or tomorrow...could we expect a presser?

I think Skiles and his style of coaching tends to wear on guys after a while but there is no doubt he'd be an upgrade and kick some of these guys in the butt (assuming most of them will be around).

Scott verbally has himself committed to coaching the Bucks.

I heard the same about Carlisle. I wonder who is "worse?" I like the Skiles hire. He was successful in building the Bulls and hopefully learned some lessons with the implosion of that talent.
