A guy at work thinks that the NBA Draft has an edge over the NFL Draft. He brought up some good points for his side of the debate. He said it is much more closer to the end of the season for the players being drafted and when they are actually drafted so those selected are fresher in your mind. It also is not that far from the Championship that took place earlier in the month for the Pro League they are going into. It has the Lottery to help in promotion, only two rounds on one day, and the stage for the Final Four instead of the BCS all help. I know better than to post this in any other forum. It would be shot down quicker than a Baseball Thread by Tuna in the Packer Forum. I just wondered what the BBall fans here thought. He had some very valid statements. He is also more of an NFL Fan than an NBA Fan. He just felt that he was making a sound observation.

The NBA draft is way better on TV in my opinion for a few reasons:

1) The first round has a pick every 5 minutes vs. the 15 minutes you have to wait in the NFL's first round. The first round of the NFL draft takes way too long and unless you have absolutely nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon is hard to watch in its entirety.

2) There's no Chris Berman on the NBA telecast

3) The NBA draft seemingly has more big trades happen on draft day. The NFL will have some teams trade to move up or move down, but you usually don't see established players moving.

The speed of the draft alone makes the NBA draft more enjoyable to watch. It happens the week after the Finals, which is amazing. A botched lottery pick can hamper an NBA franchise much worse than a bad first rounder can hamper an NFL team. I don't know why the NFL waits until late April either. I guess they do like to spread things out in the offseason to keep interest up. We go right from the draft to mini camps. In the NBA you have the draft in June, free agency in July and then it's dead until camp opens in October.

I like the NBA draft better as well. The amount of time it takes to get through the first round of the NFL draft is horrible. Even when the Packers draft 5th (Hawk) it seemed like it took decades to get to that choice.

One of my biggest thinga with the NFL draft is the suspense waiting to see if Minnesota is going to make it up to the podium in time to make their pick. This year should be real interesting.

That's why there's onlt 10 minutes per pick now, instead of 15. It was ridiculous...

NFL draft is better. The NBA has no Mel Kiper.

It is a good thing that the NBA does not have a Kiper. With those beady little eyes, that wig of his, and the rate of speed that he speaks at, he is way too annoying. He is also under the impression that there is not one player coming out of the NCAA that is large enough to play in the NFL. I wonder if he thought that about Ed "Too Tall" Jones or not?
