Has anyone had one of these? Specifically in the Lumbar area? What would be the best treatement? Physical Therapy or having the micro surgery?

TIA!

1. See a MD

2. Don't ask for or take advice from anybody on a message board.

3. You know both these things.

I ended up having surgery because mine ruptured. It ended up pressing on the nerve making walking near impossible.

Surgery would always be and option so if your insurance covers physical therpy I'd go that route first.

The disk between my L4 and L5 vertebrae herniated, then ruptured. You think herniated hurts? You don't want to end up rupturing the nasty thing.
Talk to your doctor about referring you to a neurosurgeon ASAP, and have him do a work-up on you. He'll want an MRI, etc. He may recommend micro surgery, or he may have to go in. But as bad as my back was (ask Tim, he saw me attempt to walk) the week after surgery I was walking and moving (even COUGHING!) with little-no pain. I had an exceptional surgeon. Hope you find one too, Elias. My heart goes out to you!

I had surgery for a rupture also. Like Tim and Babe I couldn't walk without the assistance of a walker. It was amazing, when I came to after the surgery I could tell the difference immediately, and I walked out of the hospital 17 hours after the surgery.

Get three opinions.

Make sure your insurance covers everything.

You may need a change in lifestyle more than you need surgery.
