So your main complaint about American Idol, that makes it so outstandingly awful, is not really anything that pertains to American Idol in particular, but something widespread in "mainstream music"? So if your point is that it's mainstream music, which you don't like, that's okay, I guess, but I thought you were trying to say that it's worse.

The American Idol schlubs are all designed to be pre-packaged, plastic pablum musically. I will say Chris Daughtry is okay and Kelly Clarkson has a fairly nice voice, but the rest are just total generic crap. I'd rather listen to Bob Dylan get a colonoscopy, and I HATE Dylan's voice.

Has it ever occurred to you that this doesn't mean it isn't any good, it just means that YOU don't like it.

As I said, Daughtry's okay (I like "There And Back Again" and "Feels Like Tonight") and I do kind of like Kelly Clarkson (who is relatively generic, but cute and refuses to get plastic surgery or starve herself, which I can respect), so I don't hate everything that's come from it, just the vast majority, and the show itself, which is crap. It's televised karaoke (which regular karaoke is pathetic enough) basically "finding" the next Tiffany, Britney Spears, N-Sync, Rick Astley or Wayne Newton and based on a vote by people who can't judge real talent, which is what Simon Cowell himself said.

Actually, I have an insanely busy Saturday starting in about an hour and a half, so I wanted to take it easy Friday Night. Just went out to dinner with the GF as I was craving fish. Friday Night dinners are just better with beer battered fish. Vishnu, I love the upper midwest.
